I have this model sn 14408-wore out frets on it-replaced it with same style fender neck-great player!

I bought new in 87-wore the frets out and replaced with same style fender neck. Guitar was in storage at guitar store for a few years. Was going to buy a fender strat that day but the tokai was a better guitar than the 8 strats i tested that day.never had the pick guard off so I can’t tell u about the pots dates.I have an early 90’s fender American strat plus but i prefer thetst62

Cool. Yeah, the sale date doesn't tell us much other than it is older than May 1987.

I have seen guitars sit for years in music stores. That's not unusual.

Also not unusual for the sales guy to tell you it hasn't been there long.

We need the pot dates & production codes to be sure.

Yours, 14408, was made 64 units before 14472.

So it should be no newer than 1984 because SN 14472 has = signs on the neck and body (pre 1985).

Also, if it was from 1987 it would have a six digit serial number starting with 2xxxxx.

Neck stamp 3=5,what does that mean?

3 means it was made in March.

SN 14472 was made in April (4).
