  • V II pickups and Klusons so should be TST-50GS (despite 1954 detail, like a button string tree)
  • Pot codes are March 1987
  • Final Prospec bridge
  • Production codes separated by a dash, not =
  • Routs without pickup screw indentations, no control brass plate
  • Neck stamp is 5 -17, body stamp lost to screening paint

Actually one of the nicest STs/TSTs I've had.

Anyone know which guitars these "V" pickups came in ?
My Ast '56 has V pickups.Aren't those V pickups not the replacments for the E's ?Then they have to be in ST60's and above.

The SS60 bullet trussrod has grey's with blue and black wires.

Not really sure. There are also some marked VI and some marked VII.

Apparently “V” marked pickups = C.A.R. (California Accurate Reproduction) pickups.

I think I mis read your post. Are you asking if the U and E pickups were still used in 1985?

Doesn’t look like it.

Here are a set of “VII” marked pickups in a guitar I was able to date to May of 1984. A TST55L.

Mysterious "V" And "Y" Marks

And I’m not clear on all of this, but those seem to be the replacement for the U pickups that were in ST50s? V apparently replaced the E pickups?

No idea if they are actually the same pickups. That’s why I suggested measuring them. Let us know if you do.

My belief is that the TST-56 & 62 were replaced by the AST-56 & 62. I could be wrong, but seems like an alignment with how they started using the T in other lines in 1984.

That’s why I started collecting examples of all of them, to sort out the timeline.

So far, the serial numbers on AST-56 & 62 are the only ones I have found that extend into the six digit 2xxxxx scheme that dates to 1986/87. So they seem later.

Also, that “export logo” or "fat script" logo used on the TST-56 & 62 was an early script, 1982/83.

Hmmm. Close, but could be different pickups.

Would be great to have more samples from other folks though.

early 80s Tokai pickups....authentic and worth it?
The V pickups are identical I believe to the E pick ups which they super ceded in some ,but not all higher end ST60s and ST80s from 84 to 86. They were also fitted to modified headstock AST s in the States , where the were referred as C.A.R. California Accurate Reproduction pickups.

Here's a thought: are we certain there actually is such a thing as a "VI" pickup?

I've thought of it before, because looking at pics of pups that have been interpreted as VI, they often look like they could just as easily be VII. Two I's, only close enough together to smudge together to what looks like a thick I if applied sloppily?

As far as I know, the catalog designations are "ST Vintage" and ST Vintage Mk II", right? If so, just V and VII would work fine to tell them apart. Also, it doesn't really make sense to have a third pup type called "Vintage Mk I" if you already have the basic "Vintage" designation in use?

I haven't got access to my pics right now, but I might have something in there.
