Edit: I found out that this logo is actually called a "Flying Dragon" while translating the mid year 1983 catalog...

Collecting examples of these.

They seem to first appear in the 1983 model year on "Special Series" and "Original Series" guitars.

Logo on the 1983 (?) Original Series catalog Vol. 1

I mean, what is that? A stylized mynah bird? A feathered serpent? Or could it be Phoenix rising from the ashes? If indeed Fender Japan brought down Tokai in 84-85 this could be a discreet way of saying "we're back". :)

That’s really cool. Never seen one on a guitar like that. Wow.

Looks like I found the smoking gun for what this logo is actually called.... "Flying Dragon"

I found this in translating the 1983 mid year catalog:

1983 Tokai

"New humbucking P.U. P1-11 BZ

Thorough research on old guitar pickups has created a humbucking pickup full of originality.

Mounted on all 5 series models of VX, TZ, FSD, FVD, and EXD,

And mounted on the black cover is the exquisite Flying Dragon,

Please experience the splendid and exciting original sound.

(P1-14BZ with 4 core shield is used for models with dual sound system and coil tap system)"

Listing showing "Flying Dragon" logo pickups.

It is apparently a removable plastic cover? Pickups are ceramic and seem pretty hot too.

Tokai トーカイ P1-11BZハムバッカー カバー付き... - ヤフオク!

Specifications: This is a humbucker that was mounted on the rear of the 1983 Tokai FSD-65. It was a TOKAI original humbucker, which was a limited model at the time and was installed in the upper class with a list price of 65,000 yen, with the part number P1-11BZ. According to the catalog at the time, thorough research on old guitar pickups gave birth to humbucking pickups full of originality. Please realize splendid and exciting sound... apparently ... It has a cover, but it can be removed. It's a ceramic humbucker. It looks like a normal PAF humbucker, but it actually has a resistance of 18.21kΩ. Also, the build is very good, and it is different from the mass-market model. String pitch is about 10mm. Originally it was a model with a plastic cover. The length of the lead wire is about 20 cm. Condition: There is no particular feeling of use and it is beautiful.
