And I'm not sure if it was ever decided what these things were. I have seen them listed as Tokais before.

Weren't there some "Golden Era Re-issue" Tokais too?

Good one. Do you know when these were made? I don't know much about them.

I think I have some info on these 'Golden era RI' models, on my pc.
Not home right now, so I will get back on this.

Tokai Grandy GLS "1985" Love Rock
Tokai MADE
SOLID TOP
1P maho BACK
light weight 3.96 kg

Description

Love Rock GLS long-awaited reproduction from Tokai export brand "Grandy" made in 1985
Please pay attention to super rare items!

First of all, "SolidFlameMapleTop" solid flame maple top and "1 piece mahogany" are adopted for the back material, 1P mahogany neck without neck heel joint, internal routing processing long tenon deep joint adoption, glamorous TOP curve line, head angle 18 degrees . Back of head serial number 50XXXXX
The solid flame maple top material (see photo) and the 1 piece mahogany back are made of carefully selected wood. It can be inferred that it was manufactured on a made-to-order production line based on an order from an agency. The official model number is unknown because there is no description inside the PU cavity, such as a sticker on the back of the head that indicates the model number.
The PU is a Tokai genuine 57PAF vintage, and the control part is normal wiring instead of the base wiring, see the photo, and there is no evidence that parts, including pegs, have been replaced.

There is one scratch of about 2 cm on the body side, and there are some small dents and minor wear that are not noticeable, but it does not feel excessively used and the paint is glossy for a 37-year-old vintage guitar. Including, very beautiful mint condition is kept.

Depending on the lighting, both the color and the frame show various expressions, but under normal indoor lighting and sunlight, the colors in the first and second photos are close to the actual product.
When browsing on a PC, right-click on each photo Open in new tab You can see the photo in a large image
It weighs 3.96 kilos and is lightweight, the neck is in good condition, the remaining frets and truss rods have plenty of room, and the condition of the instrument is excellent!

Let alone a carefully selected individual, this is a super rare item that you will never see again in the name of Grandy.

Even among the world-famous "TOKAI MADE" items, the yen is very cheap against the dollar. The movement is very fast every time.

If you have a pin, please hurry up! !
Non-genuine brown hard case included
If you are in a hurry, please feel free to contact us! 16:00-20:00

Since there are many people who do not know the Grandy brand, we have registered it with TOKAI.

In the early 00s there were two UK runs, around 24 instruments total, where Tokai bodies were sent to the UK and given custom hardware/electronics and a relic finish.

I just found this other run, different than the "Retrospec"?

Is this the one you were talking about? LS75Fs relic'd?

"TOKAI LS75F 59 RELIC RARE

opportunity to acquire a very rare tokai, only 24 of these made it to England in 2002/3 according to the info available on the net. These guitars arrived as unfinished body's from japan and were then finished and given the relic finish in England. The tokai forums suggest they were sold by coda music for £1200 when new.

These guitars are a really nice copy of the '59 les paul so they have a gibson 50's neck. Speaking of which they have the long neck joint for better sustain (see photo). The hardware is wilkinson as are the pick ups, which are the wilkinson PAF clones, not to be confused with wilkinsons cheap stuff, I own 2 gibson les Paul's and this guitar is as good as them in every way.

Obviously as it is a relic there's lots of dings and faded road worn bits, the pictures are accurate. There is some fret wear to frets 2 and 3 which is shown clearly in one of the photo's. This is having no negative effect on the guitars playability whatsoever, and there's plenty of life in the frets.

Talking of playability this guitar has a very low action with no buzzing or choking.

It's worth noting that these guitars have no serial numbers probably as a result of them being a joint Japanese UK project."

The brand is Stafford and this example is from the initial Kurosawa store run back in the mid '90s built by Terada. No association with Tokai even though someone floated the idea before they were correctly identified.

Another Terada reference… I think they may have made some of the nicer Sigmas in Japan. I know they made some Ibanez guitars too. Very interesting. Think I smell an idea for a new thread. Thanks!

Interesting. Any pics of the front of the headstock you can share?

I assume the gold is the cashew finish?
