I'm not up to speed on the whole volume pot/tone pot thing & was digging around; located a couple of interesting articles on pots.

Pots are something that I typically don't think about much but the recent installation of the Dry Zs in my Bacchus BLP-FM Relic got me more interested. The reason being that once the Dry Zs were installed the volume pots seem to operate differently in relation to the taper; can't explain why though.

So, here are the two articles; be sure to check out the Alpha, Bourns, and CTS links in the second link.

there never was anything magic about pots especially the common cry of I have fitted CTS pots and orange drop caps. A resistor is a resistor and only the taper is of any relevance and to some degree the ease of turning it. The colour of a cap is irrelevant, only the value and type matter.

Magic?
I agree there is nothing magical about pots but I did locate some interesting & quite useful info within the two linked articles, and I actually learned a few things. :)
Cap colors?
Don't eat the brown acid; I heard it's bad.

cap colours in regard to nearly every advert mentions Orange drops, as though it makes it special

this brief article from Seymour Duncan sums it up nicely https://www.seymourduncan.com/tonefiend/guitar/customize-your-caps/

Sorry you didn't find the supplied links of interest, nor the info on pots of use.
I know I learned a few things from the two posted links, and I thought the info may be useful to others; possibly.
My interest within the context of the thread was specific to pots, and was never about caps, nor cap color.
You must be reading another thread.

I read them with interest but I have read more articles with much greater depth before, I added the caps comment because the two are often used together, especially in adverts as in "it has CTS pots and Orange drop caps" often with claims of magical tone attributed to the pots and caps.

“Even if you use your volume pot more as an on/off control than for volume adjustment per se, it has a significant impact on tone regardless.”

Very interesting. This is why I was asking re: the Noble pots in my LS100S and wanting to preserve the tone in replacing the broken pot.

So pots do affect tone.

Those articles seem to be about capacitors, not pots?

I started a separate thread about caps here:
