And I thought I was seeing 6 digit serial numbers beginning with 01xxxx.

I think that ATO is right .Its from the crazy 90s!What is even more bonkers is that these guitars had hex truss rods like the old Springys not the cross head that we have become accustomed to. Did they find a hidden stash of sen ash and old springy truss rods in some dusty stockroom? the mind boggles. Did Tokai actually go bust in this period? I know that they made instruments for other manufacturers at this time.

The financial troubles I had heard about were around 1984/5, then by the early 90s they were firing on all cylinders. See the thread on the Hamamatsu factory and the one on Lawsuit. Hamamatsu, the member, lives near the Tokai factory and has known employees there and that is what he was saying. So there were some weird guitars that popped up in there.
