Hi, I've been offered this breezy sound in a trade. It's red and double bound with a serial number (140749) stamped on base of neck along with 'made in Japan'. Any help with I do would be much appreciated as I'm trading a USA strat and need to know value of this guitar. Thanks in advance 👍received_1220003885554710.jpegreceived_1342743283236624.jpegreceived_599647315391820.jpeg

It looks like a 2014 ATE90B OCR.

Here’s the 2015 catalog.

Thanks for your help and info, are ATE 90B lower or higher end? I have also been offered a 1985 (could be a different date) breezy sound which is identical to the 2000s and don't have a clue what would be the best option to go for... Decision.....

Here is a couple of pics of the 80s one...inbound5256573414535582550.jpginbound8569522569557212629.jpginbound1764634068589250828.jpginbound9063978020174261438.jpginbound6010901279926306249.jpginbound7637327665692757230.jpginbound4544180560428264831.jpg

Is the second one a V neck? It has a four digit serial number.

Hi, it's quite hard from pictures regarding neck shape but 4 digit serial reads 3270...

The second one looks like a TTE70 WR but that should have a 3 barrel bridge.

And the 4 digit serial number is also odd.

Fender style serial number system used for Tokai flat tops from February 1, 1982 - Spring 1986.

Hmmm, ok will be need to do a bit more digging.... Thanks for your help. Much appreciated

I would expect a TTE70 in this period to have a 5 digit serial number.

And a U neck.

1984 catalog.

Weird, could be a partcaster? I have an American standard strat that I have up for trade so don't want to trade it for something that is not legit or have questions surrounding it...

I don’t know. We’ve seen all sorts of unexpected things that seemed to have left the factory that way.

The parts are all Tokai though it looks like.

Maybe someone else knows.

This is quite interesting, this screenshot is from 1981 catalogue and has TE70-YSR model with a 6 saddle bridge....

Is it possible that model I've been offered in trade was an early iteration of TTE-70 model where they have maybe put in 6 saddle bridge before resorting to 3 saddle... ? I've screen shotted a translation of original spec description of 1981 model...inbound2760056395975236035.jpginbound887258533611091531.jpginbound6177723289364294747.jpg

Or an in between model? There was a changeover in 1983/84 to different specs.

The 4 digit serial number is still weird in my opinion.

It should be on an early 50s to '56 V neck copy like a TE80.

If I were buying it, I would want to see pictures under the hood with the body code, pots, and the code on the butt of the neck. Without seeing that it could be almost anything.

A bit more digging by sifting through 1981 catalogue has led me to believe that TE70 did come with 6 saddle bridge and was available in wine red. I've taken a screen shot and highlighted the colour column just for reference.

Now just that serial number. I understand what you are saying... I'll see if I can get some shots of inside but doubt that seller/ trader is willing to start dismantling the guitar. My feeling is that I might just go with the newer made in Japan 2000s breezysound as it might be too much of a risk with the 'vintage' one.... It is a very hard decision though as I'm always more drawn to older instruments and their story. Thanks for all your help, would be good to see what other opinions there were regarding serial number....

The second one is the script logo which began in 1983 so it's not older than that. At least the neck isn't.

The problem is that with detachable neck, parts can get switched around. I suspect that 4 digit neck plate is off another guitar. Shame too because those were expensive models.

I could narrow down the age a lot better by seeing under the hood, but there is just not enough info in the pics to tell much.

My guess is a TTE70 WR from 1983 - 1988.

I've asked for trader to provide under the hood pictures. Will update you if I find out anything more. Cheers

I wonder if it could be from 1983 when the transition happened? There is a TST100 in a recent thread from early 1983 that has a 5 digit serial numebr which is also odd. Just makes me wonder.
