Slab board. Fretless.

I need to go through the 1983 catalog and see which one is lacquer and fretless.

This should have been a script logo since this other one was with a slightly lower serial number.

Looks like it may be the JB85 That was the 1960 (slab) Jaco model.

This guitar is either July 1982 or July 1983.

1982 catalog:

I got both slab board and veneer board jazz sound fretless, and i remember my TJB70 is slab board, the other one has no number sticker, i thought it might be JB85. You could check 1981 catalog, JB85 has veneer board.

Good point.

So alot of models changed from 1981 to 1982 models, including the JB85.

You can kind of see int eh pics that the fretboard was a laminate in 1981 and a slab in 1982.

Also in 1982 they did a bunch of year based models. 1960 was a slab board as it says in the 1982 catalog. No mention of 1960 model in 1981.

And to add to the confusion, in 1982 the PB70 is a slab 1960 model.

The JB80 is veneer 1964 model, and the JB85 is a slab 1960 model.

And things change again in 1983/84.

There was no JB70 in 1981/82, but in 1983 there is a TJB70.

Looks like the TJB70 and 80 had a slab board in 1983/84

and in 1984 TJB80 is slab board......never seen and still looking for TJB80.

So looking at that serial number and the ones we have collected recently combined with the July stamp, it seems like this is a 1983 bass.

And since it is fretless, it looks to me like it is a TJB70.

Looks like the catalog says the TJB70J is a "grooved fretless".

The TJB70F does not mention grooves.

I'm not a bass player. I can't tell if you would call those grooves or not? Looks like they may indent very very slightly.

I don't see any lines on the TJB70F (laying down).
