Dry Z pickup Set sales for 129,000 yen = $1,172 USD

Genuine or not, he got ripped off. They aren't that good.

    1982 LS100 Replacement Hardware Suggestions

I've never tried Rewind pickups, but I've read the book he helped write about PAFs. I'd love to get some, since he actually winds them 'the old way', rather than to a formula - he's not afraid to do sets with a higher DCR on the 'neck'. I'm 'allergic' to 'balanced sets'... About a year ago, I...

    Tone comes from?

Ah, the old 'tonebench' test. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: FWIW, your speaker and it's cab. is the most important component, followed by your amp.

    1982 LS100 Replacement Hardware Suggestions

I did the 'Faber thing' to my LS150F just last week - brass bridge posts and thumbwheels, ABR-1-a-like bridge, steel tailpiece studs and inserts. The 4mm brass posts screw right in with no mods necessary. The tailpiece inserts are a half mm larger diameter than the (Gotoh) ones Tokai fitted, so...

What was Your Favorite MIJ Purchase of 2022?

I'm going to assume this comment is in reply to my Gretsch 6128 photo... Thanks. My first love is Les Pauls, I gig Strats... Yeah, it is fun. It's a bit heavy considering it's hollow, but set up a slapback echo and a bit of reverb... You'll see all over the 'net people comparing them to a Les...

    1983 Tokai Goldstar neck

Fudging basket! I wish I'd seen this when you posted it. I'd have snapped it up. Not got the money at the mo., but if you've still got it towards the end of April...

    Flamed Maple Necks

Probably not very stable, either. I see a lot of cheap guitars with flamed necks, but not that many 'good' guitars with them.

    LS150 made in Korea?

I own an LS150F. The serial on mine is embossed in to the head, like post 60s Gibsons, not ink-stamped, so 'the faded serial' description, baffles me somewhat. The 'Made In Japan' is ink-stamped, under the lacquer, on the back of the head. As far as the pots go, it was fitted with CTS pots...

    Tokai Lacquer finish

"Lacquer" doesn't really tell you anything other than it has a clear top coat. It could be nitro, could be acrylic, poly... could be hair lacquer! "Lacquer" doesn't definitively mean 'nitrocellulose'.

    Metallic red or Fiesta

I should clarify. I have a Flamingo Orange 83 Tokai. My Dad has a JV Squier Strat from the same year (same factory) in "Fiesta Red". The Cliff/Bruce/Hank Marvin '58 Strat is 'Fiesta Red'. According to my Dad, who saw that Strat in the early 60s, the Tokai FO is closer to the Fiesta Red colour...

    Identifying guitar

Not seen one of those before, but FWIW, it looks like a vague copy of a 90s Patrick Eggle Berlin.

    My new ST-100

Sorry for the late reply... Not sure why I was quoted here - I didn't mention 'V' shaped rosewood boards - however, just for sake of conversation, a 'famous', deceased friend of mine had one of those V necked '62 r/w board Strats back in '84, as a backup to his hardtail '79 Strat. Yeah, I know...

    Metallic red or Fiesta

I prefer metallic, or Candy Apple Red in Fenderese. Mine is Flamingo Orange (Fiesta Red). My Dad is a massive Hank Marvin fan, owns a JV Squier '57 in "Fiesta Red", and according to him, mine is much closer to the original colour of that guitar - the Cliff Richard/Bruce Welsh owned Strat that...

A TOKAI By Any Other Name?

I would just say, don't assume that because Tokai made 'em, they use the same parts. I've a Japanese Fender and my father has a JV Squier, which I believe was made by Tokai, but while the build quality is there, the parts aren't the same.

    TE200R All Rosewood Breezy

Thanks. 'She's' very photogenic, but in the flesh, there's plenty of dents and scratches. Plays and sounds heavenly.

    TE200R All Rosewood Breezy

Tokai dealer local to me had a (new) rosewood Tele in recently. According to him, the one he had was basically, a standard Tele with rosewood veneers. I guess, with the CITES regs, it wouldn't be financially plausible for Tokai to do a solid rosewood Tele, anymore.
