Post your Tokai bass pics, please!

Wow, James! That's a really nice find - looks totally original to me (although I'm no expert on Hard Punchers) :D . It reminds me of the P Bass that Sid Vicious used to wave around (and sometimes even play) during his brief stint with the Sex Pistols 8) .

Jazz Sound 45,60,etc.What are the differences?

I've got some other basses to sell first and depending on how that goes, I will be letting the Tokai go too. I will probably come here and offer it on the Forum 'For Sale' section first, but because I have no feedback here, it might be that I have to take it to ebay :( . I can PM you and let...

Post your Tokai bass pics, please!

Wow! That's a beauty DDB - really :o ! I didn't even know that they made a JB85 FL in that colour. I've only ever seen the sunburst (Jaco  ) ones. Anyway, take good care of it and congratulations.

    Jazz Sound... Please help date

I'm rather late to the party, but it looks pretty similar to my white Tokai JB45. Mine came with (historically) the wrong tuners completely :( (based on '70s P Bass ones. See below ...) These were mostly used on the Tokai Hard Puncher (P Bass copies) series, but seem to have found their...

Jazz Sound 45,60,etc.What are the differences?

Sorry for the late reply. I'm going to say something stupid now  . The lightest of my three Jazz Sounds is the Olympic White one, which is also the cheapest, lowest model of the three (JB45). It weighs 8.3lbs, which actually makes it the lightest bass I've ever owned (well, until I...

    PB-60 Hard Puncher

Amen to that  ! Tokai really turned out some outstanding musician's instruments in the '80s. Enjoy it ! :D

    Earthing a JB45?

If the humming bothers you (as it did me), your best bet is to shield all of the cavities with copper foil 8) . I've done both of my Jazz Sounds (as well as all of my other basses, including the StingRay with the 'humbucker' pickup :-? ). You just have to make sure that the shielding in...

Jazz Sound 45,60,etc.What are the differences?

Well, I've only owned three Jazz Sounds, but the biggest differentiating factor between them has been the weight - the lighter the bass, the deeper and more 'vintage' the tone! Here are my three, from L to R, ascending in order of tonal brilliance, but ascending from R to L in model number and...

Tokai JAPAN appear to be making Fender bass copies again!!!

Yep, they're on the Tokai.co.uk website now as well :P ... http://www.tokai-guitars.co.uk/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=130&category_id=18&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=31 If I was still active as a bass collector, I'd buy one of these...

Tokai JAPAN appear to be making Fender bass copies again!!!

I was just having my weekly trawl throught the Tokai bass sales on ebay UK, when I saw this listing for a brand new TJB50 :o ... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tokai-TJB50-Jazz-Bass-Tweed-Case-White-/400169907828?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item5d2bfc3674 They also offer a TPB50 ...

1983 Tokai Hard Puncher - Whats it Worth?

That's a tricky one :-? . Hardcore Tokai bass collectors (and there aren't many of those  ) might find the 'post-law suit' (if I can call it that!?) headstock shape interesting, but I think that most buyers would prefer the more typical Fender shaped one. I guess the bass dates from...

My Beautiful Trio of 'Jazz Sounds' (lots of piccies).

This actual bass (well, there were two made, so it might be its twin  ) is now for sale, for anyone with 2,000GBP to spare ... http://www.basscentre.com/4-string-bass-guitars/bass-collection-blockhead-norman-watt-roy-prototype.html Just for info.

    Question about a Tokai Jazz-Sound.

Result 8) ! Welcome to the club  .

    Question about a Tokai Jazz-Sound.

From the pictures that you've posted, I'd say that it's 100% early late '70s/'80s Tokai Jazz Sound :) . The thin, laminated fretboard, the swirly tort pickguard, the "L" prefix serial number, the 3-screw tuners and the headstock logo all fit. The painted headstock is a little unusual, but I...

    Just 'pimped' my Jazz Sound.

This is my main bass and until this week it had a set of rusty (Precision Bass) tuners on and a rusty Fender style bridge :-?. I thought that it deserved something better, so I stripped it down, polished it and fitted a set of Hipshot tuners (with the correct shape heads), a Hipshot bridge (very...

    Tokai Starsound -is it real?

Sorry to say it, but I really don't think that that is a geniune Tokai bass :( . The "Goldstar Sound" logo was designed to go on Tokai's (Fender) Stratocaster guitar copies, whereas the Precision Bass copies were (always?) called "Hard Puncher" basses. "Goldstar Sound" basses are certainly new...

Post your Tokai bass pics, please!

Wow! That's really in beautiful condition, Wojtek - much, much nicer than my white one  . The photos are really clear and sharp too - well done ! :) You asked about the pickguard!? Well, yes, a Fender '62 Jazz Bass Reissue one will fit very well, but you probably find that 3 or 4 of...

I've bought my first Tokai! Real or fake?

Yep, looks like a very credible JB45 to me - congratualtions! :D
  19. F

Guys - do you think this is a real tokai?

It's extremely hard to say that that is a geniune Tokai Jazz Sound, but it's actually fairly easy to say that there is nothing (not already mentioned by the seller) which screams "FAKAI" at me :-? . One way that you can be sure that you're looking at a fake Tokai is when you see a 'slab board'...
  20. F

Which parts of this Jazz Sound are actually Tokai parts?

 That's brilliant! I'm tempted to get one of those myself, in case I ever build that '70s FrankenJazz Bass that I've been promising myself  .
