    What Tokai do I have

The laminated fingerboard tends to suggest earlier than 1987, in my opinion. ST40 from 84, 85 could be bang on.

    1981 Telecaster style with trem/humbuckers

It looks great. I’m no expert, but it does have a ‘super/custom edition’ feeling about it. It’s something that Tokai probably went “we’ve got all these bits left, what should we do with them”. It looks to have a ‘V’ profile neck - is this correct? Everything is proper for 1981, so you’ve got a...

    Nice. Block logo late 1982 - early 1983. 👍

Help dating my Tokai Breezysound tortoise shell

I think your assumptions are correct. Other than posting photos of the internals, pickups, routings, etc, the bits you’ve shown all point to an early/mid eighties guitar. My ‘guess’ is 1984/5. Disclaimer: Of course, all my opinions are my own - and may be wrong. 😬 Hodge

My guitar is unique, then. That’s put a few quid on it. Happy days. 👍 Hodge

Need help verifying a potential purchase

It’s just everything points to it being something else, such as a Squier. The neck plate has a plastic ‘under plate’, like a Squier. The pick guard isn’t a TOKAI, due to the colour. Some photos of the body routing and electronics would also help. Hodge

Need help verifying a potential purchase

I’m sorry, but it doesn’t look correct, in my opinion. I’d avoid it. Logo is not quite right, neck plate is wrong, scratch plate is wrong, bridge saddles aren’t right. Mmm, it would be nice see inside. Hodge.

    Anyone else seen this?

80’s neck with round laminate rosewood board. Double side dot markers - mistake or because it was a painted neck? Surely someone else has seen this? Https://photos.app.goo.gl/DQvsHkQFVrohf9c77

New/Old Super Edition purchased - photos added - advice needed

I love it, due to all it’s flaws. It has double side dot markers where it looks like they’ve been added, and then the neck has been chosen to paint, and they’ve re-done them. I’d love if someone has seen that before.

New/Old Super Edition purchased - photos added - advice needed

Yeah, thanks, everything looks legit, it’s just I have no idea about pickups (whether they’re any good), or how old it is. I’m guessing 1985-6 because of the rosewood laminated neck. The Tokai stamped saddles may well have been left over from earlier years. It seems the whole guitar is made up...

New/Old Super Edition purchased - photos added - advice needed

https://photos.app.goo.gl/88UhVQq7cTymN2VE6 Ok, the guitar has arrived and I really would like your thoughts. Neck seems Tokai to me, but I’m not familiar with body routings on these models. Any comments would be welcome. Hodge

New/Old Super Edition purchased - photos added - advice needed

Okay, I’ve bought a somewhat beat up, Strat type Super Edition from eBay and will post some pics and links up when I receive it. My first questions are: Has anyone ever sanded the paint finish off the back of a Tokai neck. The one I’ve bought has been sanded off and has double side dot markers...

ST55 Metalic Red with matching headstock

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6e05iItC1S4 This is my very basic, crappy comparison on a very hot day in my conservatory. Olympic White ST50 has U pickups, the Blue ST 50 has VI.

Is this a high end Tokai?

Looks nice. I’m no Love Rock expert, but I would assume it’s 2005.

    Wtf

    I thought the same. :o

I finally became a very unhappy Tokai owner.

Sorry you’ve been ‘misled’. I can’t help, but reading your story reminded me of a similar situation my cousin got into with Fender. He bought a USA Strat via GAK. He’d chosen the guitar because of the spec (can’t remember exactly), but when it arrived it didn’t have the solid steel tremolo...
