    Mystery Guitar Labels: Pearl

Not sure what you mean by "angled fretboard"? The Maxon pickups date to December 1975, the pot codes seem to be 751 which could mean early May 1977, both could've been transplanted from another guitar tho.

    Chaki pickups

Hard to tell without close-up pictures and some of the bottom and DC-R readings. They look like Hofner 512 pickups but I guess they are Japanese "Shin-Ei" copies of them (the only Japanese 512 copy to be found on the internet I guess).

These Tokai Gold Tops are Having Babies ..... WTF?

I'm seeing this since I check the various platforms on a regular basis (or just see what Sigmania digs up on YJ) - some models often seem to surface in bunches for some (probably weird) reason, sometimes even on YJ. For example, when I started looking for a spaghetti TE70 Custom there were zero...

1984 or 1986 Strat Tokai whats the difference?

I'm sorry, that's a very broad question and therefore difficult to answer. What particular models do you mean? Why are you asking for these particular years? What are you generally looking for in a Strat? Maybe it's easier to point you to a particular model you could go on a hunt for when we...

    NGD 1978 PB80 Hard Puncher

Really hard to see, there's also always a possibility that it was Monday morning and someone grabbed the wrong stamp, looks like a one-piece body tho and I guess anything lower would be 2-pc. No doubt the body is matching the neck.

    Mr.Momose is gone….

That's sad news and my thoughts are with his family. But there's a wonderful thing about extraordinary craftsmen, luthiers or inventors: An important part of their soul will always remain present on this planet and have impact on people seeing, touching and admiring their work, in case of...

"MADE IN JAPAN" Neck Label Sticker

That was my initial theory since they seemed to have started with the UK legal incident, so I tried to find out if this was maybe due to the Merchandise Marks Act 1887 and learned that there are some widespread misconceptions about that (and the "Made in Germany") label, similar to the chain of...

    1980 ST80 GS

Interesting... late 1980 and it looks like it has the Matsushita switch (of which we thought it came up in '81, announced '82 IIRC).

    1981 ST80R ?

Also, Final Pro.spec saddles borderline unlikely for '81 and the aftermarket decal may indicate it's a Goldie from later years.

Hello! I think I might have an old Tokai neckbut I’m not sure

Pretty sure this is not a Tokai neck. Headstock shape not quite right, retainer position wrong, center hole at heel, missing stamp....sorry.

Need help indentifying Love Rock model

Definitely 2010. Not sure about the 3-pc top - the offset seam is a bit odd, are you sure there's another seam on the other side? The 2010 catalog says 2-piece top for the LS92(VF) plain top, it doesn't mention how many pieces the back has but the 2012 catalog states 2 pieces.

Hello! Need help identifying this awesome looking Tokai Bass!

The 2010 catalog has non-SEB models of the HPB (-90 and -70), specs don't fully match tho (only RW fretboard offered, only the -90 in VNT).

    Tokai Custom five digit number

If I remember that all right, there were rumors that Tokai had another factory in Nagano as in "Tokai factory" early on, likely an oversimplification by people not familiar with how these things work in Japan. Why would Tokai build another factory 250km across Honshu island and have them make...

    What the...

Could be the craziness of someone 40 years ago. 40 years ago I was pretty crazy too and much more of an idiot than I am today (I hope). :)

Hatchet Jobs, Rodent Routs, Woodpecker Holes & Other Assorted Butchery

Jimi Hexnut. :D No, I don't want to know what was going on in their head when they came up with that, maybe it's contagious or they had screws in there too.

    NGD: 1982 TE-70YSR

Before putting up new strings today I checked the neck PU: Well, thank you for putting a full set of TE-As into my guitar, unknown friend in Hamamatsu! :) Edit: Sheesh...forgot that I wanted to talk about prices: A set of TE-B pickups (sold as parts with a markup) would've been 10,500JP¥...

    TWB-20 Pickups

No they're supposed to look that way, similar to the PCB base pickups Bill Lawrence designed for Gibson in the 80s. The TWB-20 comes in all sorts of configurations, with 6 slotted, 12 hex pole screws and blades and it seems it's actually the most offered "Tokai" pickup type on Reverb/eBay/etc...
