Re: LS345

Cool. Do you know what year the guitar I posted was made? Serial number 1839355. “Made in Japan” in black ink. I would assume that is a 2018 example, going by the serial # but that's only my assumption; it seems to fit though. Personally I would use brass tacks to fasten the fingerboard to the neck...

Re: LS345

I'm in the same boat; I don't know **** about newer Tokai models. My 'newest' LS is my 2000 Tokai Love Rock LS-320 VF, and it is now 21 years old. I don't really know much about it because I only see it about three, maybe four times a year. I do know it's all original & the pick guard was never inst...

Re: SRV Tone Discussion

I saw SRV Labor Day weekend 1984 during the 'Couldn't Stand the Weather Tour.' This show was about one month before the Carnegie Hall show. I would have to say this was a prime time to see SRV play a gig; he was on a roll with DT, and SRV's tone & playing were at a peak, IMO. That was a very memorab...

Re: 1981 LS120 Top Separation

When I sale instruments I go through more information exchange than I do actual selling. Case in point: I recently had a potential buyer ask some detailed questions about frets on a guitar. I took a lot of photos, sent him the photos, and explained in detail my opinion of the frets. He passed on a p...

Re: 1981 LS120 Top Separation

You ask, "Just wondering if there’s something I’m missing?"

Nope, you're not missing a damn thing.
You spotted a problem instrument, you spotted a seller that refuses to reply to a potential buyer, and both of those issues are IMO not worth your time.

Re: Help me identify this Les Paul?

I don't believe the vintage of the example is in question; I have already voiced my opinion that the serial # denotes a 1984 example

Re: Love Rock Headstock Veneer?

here is another TF thread concerning 'inkies' Note where TF member 'Peter Mac' chimes in concerning serial #s. http://tokaiforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=23046&highlight=ls60&sid=702d0f42ecbad4c1d253d132b38dfd13 There is no mention (by Peter Mac) of a 000**** serial range example. I have one LS inkie wit...

Re: Help me identify this Les Paul?

the top looks like sycamore & there looks to be hints of flame feature in the wall of the pickup route, thus it would seem the top is solid. This, just going off what I have seen in the photos. Since the example looks to have a 1984 serial # then it's not far fetched to think the top may actually be...

Re: Love Rock Headstock Veneer?

all my inkie LS examples have had serial #s that start with 000****, 010****, and 110****.

Supposedly 1980 & 1981 examples.

Re: Love Rock Headstock Veneer?

all the LS inkies I have owned have a thin, wood veneer on the head stock face. these are visible from either side of the head stock, or from the open book end of the head stock. the veneer is covered by the cherry red color that covers the side & the end of the head stock but the color looks a few ...

I see you have the LS-60 listed as,

Wood veneer:

but it has no veneer, and no plastic piece; only black paint on the head stock face.

Re: 1981 Tokai LS-60 Love Rock = ?What Should I Expect?

Out of curiosity, as I am trying to figure out a pattern in headstock material, does your headstock have a plastic veneer or can you see wood grain under the black paint? This 1981 LS-60 has the black paint on the head stock face, where you can see hints of the wood grain underneath. Don't recall i...

Re: What is the difference between an LS100, LS120, LS150, and an LS200 in 1982?

I found a post from 7 years ago that seems to answer my question. Was hard to find the old thread, but I had vaguely remembered the conversation. Reborn Old said: “Because it has a circuit board, it's likely not an LS-150. An LS-120 solid top would be my best guess, since it has a maple top, and no...

Re: Rinkya Shipping Has Gone Ballistic

Good result 8) It would be interesting to see what the rotation of the tone pot delivers, usually lin pots are nothing, nothing, nothing, everything in the last quarter. As far as associated terms I was under the impression that the term 'linear' was associated with B pots. I assume 'linear' is wha...
