    80s Breezy?

Thread revival alert!!! Decided to go ahead with the refin a year or two ago. Got a local chap to to an aged-white finish for a mid-60s vibe. He kept all the original dings and scrapes, so it still feels like my guitar. Very happy with the result and it gets a lot more play time these days!

    80s Breezy?

It's quite something! Not really my thing but very impressive nevertheless. I keep thinking about getting it resprayed but the costs I see online are always a couple of hundred quid and upwards. Hardly worth it for a guitar that's not worth much more than that! The other problem is that it's...

    80s Breezy?

Thanks chaps. The last minute idea sounds plausible but I'm still surprised that they went with a transparent finish over such obviously mismatched timber. It's a three piece body so I'd imagine typical of the regular models and I'd have thought they would go with a solid colour. As for the DIY...

    80s Breezy?

Sorry to spam myself but my "plan B" is to simply chuck a sticker over the offending join to distract the attention! That way I get to keep a great sounding Tele and don't have to spend anything.

    80s Breezy?

While I was at it, I took a photo of the volume/tone pots. (Note also the damage to the wood around the screw holes that worries me.) Both are marked M500KΩB so even I can work out that they're 500k, which explains the brightness when turning down! This seems like an odd value as most things...

    80s Breezy?

Thanks for the advice. I have looked in the control cavity before but there were no codes that I remember, and no sign of any other coloured lacquer. Have just popped the neck and looked in the neck pickup cavity. The neck pickup is stamped "TEB" and there's a stamped code "5-18" and a...

    80s Breezy?

Just wanted to check if my Tokai Breezysound is from the 80s as I've always assumed. I've no idea if it's pre or post 85 so I hope I'm OK to ask this here (it was sold to me as being from the mid 80s) I've owned it for around 10 years and when I bought it, it was in it's present state, i.e...

Vintage 1981 Tokai Springy Sound ST-50 for sale in the EU

Thanks for the info. Just looking for something not too heavy. Still, deciding to go with a used Tokai (my first "proper" guitar was an early 80s ST model, foolishly sold to fund an awful Elite Strat) or a new Fender.

Vintage 1981 Tokai Springy Sound ST-50 for sale in the EU

Any idea of the weight of this? Also what type of frets were used in the refret? Edit: Also interested in the neck profile/size. Cheers

Do Tokai STs tend to be heavy?

Thanks for that. This seems to be the general picture and I'll just need to look at them on a guitar by guitar basis. Not easy unless I'm lucky enough to get one locally but I'll keep trying. BTW, Those JV62s you've got on your site look rather saucy!

Do Tokai STs tend to be heavy?

I didn't care about it either until I had a few years of back/spinal problems and some shoulder surgery a few months ago. I now really enjoy the comfort of a lighter guitar! I know what you are saying about not being able to generalise by brand - there are light and heavy variants within all...

Do Tokai STs tend to be heavy?

I know. It's not unusual for a guitar from the late 80s but I bought a Squier CV 50s strat a couple of years ago that weighs only 7lbs 2oz and whenever I swap back to the Fender I hate it because of the weight! I was just wondering if the Tokais tend to be any lighter but my limited research...

Do Tokai STs tend to be heavy?

Only wondering as I'm looking for a new Strat to replace my Strat Plus, one of the reasons being the weight which is 8lb 10oz. Ideally, I'd like something under 8lb, 7.5lb or lower would be brilliant. My first proper guitar was a Springy that I bought new in about 82-83. Foolishly I sold it a...

FS UK ONLY: TST50 'MARY KAYE' MODEL AS NEW

Yes, it's quite hefty, but not as heavy as I've been led to believe many of the 70s ash strats were. It really is a great looker, so hope it sells. I was tempted but it's a bit heavier than the guitar I would be replacing it with. Which sort of defeats the object. Thanks anyway.

FS UK ONLY: TST50 'MARY KAYE' MODEL AS NEW

Out if interest, does the ash body make these heavier than the regular TST50s? Also, this one seems a bit whiter than PhilWs in the linked thread, which looks more of a vintage/yellow white shade. Presumably the difference is down to lighting? Lovely looking guitar btw. I've been admiring it...
