Ah that's interesting re the Chinese models, so it pays to be careful at least! I do have a legit and fairly recent Chinese Tokai 335 (cant remember the exact model) which i picked up on reverb a couple of years back for approx $200 and I have to say it plays exceptionally well and I'd say in...
Thanks again Sigmania & Mdvineng :-)
Sigmania thats a fascinating thread and I see you've had quite a bit of input so I'm sure you know your potatoes! I guess part of the lure of Tokai's is this process of decoding and dating them, other than the fact they play incredibly of course.
The body...
Hey mdvineng, ampmaker & Sigmania.
Thanks for all your fascinating comments! Hopefully I too can expand my knowledge as I expand the collection! Anyway, apologies for the delay I've been waiting for a chance to get back under the hood and take more photos to see if I can find any more body...
Hi folks
So I've well and truly got the Tokai bug now and I've just bought my fifth one! Only problem is I don't really know what I'm doing with regards to identifying them as fake or of the genuine country of origin etc.
I just picked up this 80's MIJ Goldstar sound on ebay for £450 which...
Thanks, what ID marks should I look for? Also the advert says that it's had all the cavities lined, and I found another advert of the exact same guitar only being sold a few months ago and it included the cavity pictures below and they appear to be lined..... funny that the guitar would be on...
Hey folks
I'm about to buy the Goldstar in the eBay link below. Got it at a decent price but I'm concerned it's not a genuine MIJ model. Amongst other things like odd tuners, headstock shape, rear cover alignment, lack of truss rod inlay etc it just generally doesn't look right either. The...
OK so regarding the SG it does seem to look very similar to the Chinese custom 3 pups out there. Only thing giving a glimmer of hope is the serial number he has given me is 090253 (although the seller hasn't supplied a photo of serial number I trust the guy believes this is a genuine Japanese...
Sorry not sure how to tag people here...
JEM I hear ya. Not actually had a photo of the neck plate yet but I'm sure the seller would have mentioned it of it were numbered...
I am holding out hope that based on the rust pitting on the machine heads the rest of the metal work was in a similar...
I take it you don't think I need to be concerned by the lack of a serial number?
And I'll have a look at those epiphones next time, they sound very interesting too.
Cheers for all the help so far :-)
Thanks mdvinemd that's great news if it is. Think I'm getting the tokai bug before I've got my first one (with the exception of a jazz bass I've had for years)
Thank JEM that's a start at least. I can post any internal pics until I have it, but then it's too late I guess..
Looking from the front it seems like the body is squared off at the jack input. Is this normal for a breezy or should the curve of the body continue?
Thanks again
Hey Folks
This is my first post and predictably I'm asking for help... I've just won a Japanese Breezysound on eBay. Ive not paid yet as I'm getting wobbly that it could be fake, or at least not Japanese as claimed.
No serial number anywhere.
'Made in Japan' is apparently stamped on the heel...
