Orville by Gibson no serial number?

There is a Orville by Gibson ES-335 with no serial number on the back of the headstock at

All the Orville ES-335's I've seen have a serial number on the back of the headstock.
I think the sticker inside the body might have a serial number on it though.

You never know about a "one-off" like that. It could have been a mistake at the factory (they forgot to stamp it), we'll never know. Unfortunately, one guitar does not make a pattern.

I've seen a couple early 90's "Orville by Gibson" guitars that didn't have the letter "G" and one had a letter "J." I saw one early "Orville" guitar that had a "G".

A fellow forumite once said something like: don't try to understand the vagaries of the Japanese mind.
