I'm trying to figure out the areas in the world where Tokais are most popular. Curiously, I don't seem to see many US people on here. |

Never were a lot of USA people here. Tokai's are illegal in the USA and as a result other than the older Japan models, there not as popular as the other copies. Might help a bit if people put their country of origin somewhere. |

But that does not make them illegal in the USA.
Now, Cuban Cigars are illegal in the USA. You have one here and you can get fined $15,000. I don't think that applies to owning a Tokai.
I may be wrong, but I don't think they are illegal here. |

well, Glide, if that were true until last week I could've been indicted on two counts. Now I would only get one count.
I'm pretty sure it's just illegal to import them.

It is illegal to distribute in US Tokai *G* copies. If you import a nice LS model I don't think BIG BROTHER *G* will shot you in the jail. Haha!!

distribute, that's what I meant. When i said "import" I was thinking "truckloads of guitars" not "one guitar." |

Its ok for you guys over the pond in the USA. At least you have no custom
charges on importing. Not like us in the UK You can add another 20%
on top of the buying price to get a Tokai over here. But sometimes the
odd one gets through, but you always have to keep it in mind that you will
have to pay the duty. |

It's even worse here in Sweden, you'll have to add the price and the shipping cost , then add 3 % customs fee and on top of that 25% tax if you buy from outside the union.
Born free, taxed to death!

I have bought more than a few Tokai and fender japan guitars and have never payed any kind of duty or custom charges in the US. and they all come through the San Fransisco point of entry wich is very strict about this sort of thing. But I'm sure they have bigger fish to fry. There is so much stuff coming from asia that they would need an army to sift through it all. And by the way, there are more and more Tokais showing up for sale at various places, like Ebay for one. The reputation of these guitars are becoming well known and the prices are going up fast. Alot of players are fed up with Gibsons spotty quality control and sky high prices. I think I could legally buy a few a month and sell them as used if I were so inclined, for sure on Ebay. I don't think I could turn a profit at this time though. Maybe in a few more years. |

L.A. CA. USA -- Last time I checked, that was North America. Just not sure if it's still in the U.S? |
