I have owned several Fender telecasters over the years.

In 1990 I got hold of a well used second hand Tokai tele, butter scotch with a fender broadcaster maple neck.

Its electrics are noisy..BUT !!! Fantastic action plays like hot butter..screams like no other Tele ive owned. I played a session last month with this guitar and the other guitarist had a 66 original fender he estimated worth at ?2,500 gulp !! He ended up playing the Tokai ( with my permission) this seasoned session player said it was more tele than his ???
My guitar has a number on the neck plate of 1019309

what does this mean ?
Is there any other place I can look to find a Number that could lead to its age.

any help much appreciated
Cheers

Check the main site (www.tokairegistry.com) or the FAQs section on the forum - you basically match the headstock and logo shape to the chart to get a close match on the date. We're still working on how to narrow down the Fender copies.

Someone must have put the Fender logo on it, the headstock shape would indicate 1984 or older.

Hi B2jgc - on Tokai Teles the neck-plate should have 4, 5, or 6 digits, but not 7. Do you know if the neck-plate is original to the body? What makes you think the body is a Tokai? Any cavity numbers?

Ian.
Ps ? the number on the neck plate just indicates which vintage Fender is being copied (eg 4 digits indicates copy of 1954-56 US Tele), it doesn?t actually indicate the date of manufacture like a normal serial number .

Quote ?what does 1019309 mean?? ? well as I say, it appears to mean the plate &/or body are not Tokai, because the Registry doesn't list 7-digit plate-numbers. The Registry is not infallible though, & I wonder if that number might be from a 1981 7okai Breezy ? can you post some photos?

Quote ?what is a cavity number? ? almost all Tokai bodies (ie the Fender copies) have a characteristic style of number-code stamped in the pickup cavities, ie under the pickups. The number is in the form of one or two digits either side of an equals sign, eg ? 2=12 ? ? if you see numbers like that then the body almost certainly is Tokai (so far none of us know what those numbers actually mean) .

Ian.
