Hi Guys

I am new on here and was wondering if anyone can help me.
I have bought a Tokai Goldtop advertised as made in Japan. The serial number makes it 2002. I bought this second hand from a shop in the UK but they didnt know the model number and it is not written in the pick up cavities. .
It has a one piece back so was expecting it to be a model with the higher specs so I though i would see a long neck tenon.
It doesnt look like it has this but inside the neck pickup cavity on the end of the neck I can see the number 23 written on the end of the neck.
the wiring looks to be original but it is thin plastic wiring.
The pots say made in Japan.
The bridge pickup has a sticker on the bottom that looks like it says LP-A R
The neck pickup has a sticker on the bottom that looks like it says LP-A F.
I have about 5 days to return it under the distance selling regulations if I am not happy so would really appreciate your help on helping me identify it

tenon & pickup routing look legit but from the limited amount of pics it is IMO impossible to even guess what model

Hi Guys. Thanks for your input. The more I look at the back the more I am convinced I can see a cleverly matched join running back to front in a line roughy where one of the screws is about the centre the control cavity. I canít see this inside as it has shielded paint in the cavity. I am annoyed as I asked the shop if this guitar is Japanese and definitely has a one piece back before I bought it to which they replied yes and definitely a one piece back. Luckily I still have the email where I asked before I bought it. This was from a pretty well known uk guitar shop. My friend is putting the pictures up for me so when she gets home she will put up another few of where I think the join is. I hope you guys can spot it too and put my mind at rest once and for all that this was miss sold to me. Thanks for helping me out with this. I still have a week to send it back using distance selling regulations. I will have to pay return postage of £20 though

This is the email from the shop owner

Hi Dave,
No idea of the model number Iím afraid, the one resource that I used to use to get this info doesnít appear to work anymore.
It has a 1 piece mahogany back and a solid maple top, frets are good, no wear to speak of and it has a non original hard case. Condition is good overall for a 17 year old guitar but there are some dings on the side just down from the backplate and jack socket.

It's not a one piece back. I can see join lines in the last 2 pictures. What's the serial number ?? Hard to say its 17 years old without it. I can tell you the model # from that. It is a MIJ Tokai from the other pictures you have. The pots and multipiece back point to a lower model number tho.

Hi. Thanks for all the help.
Would a modern LS60 be the same spec today and if not, what model today would be the equivalent to this?

The number is the price in Yen at the time. So adjust for inflation bearing in mind the fittings, the mk3 pickups only appeared on the lower end from memory.
