I have a MAT-451 (3 sc pickups). I bought it because I had found a couple of unused MAT necks and this 451 had a bad neck. It was impossible to get the neck reasonably straight. I've tried one FRP neck (fiberglass reinforced plastic, same material as in the MAT on eBay) and one carbon fiber neck. I love the sound I get from the guitar both with the FRP and the carbon neck. The tone and sustain is excellent. The guitar is also quite light. The MAT on eBay is probably made in 1985, in '86 they changed the headstock logo and started to use black necks.
I would replace the tuners on the guitar, the are cheap ones (budget Gotoh's) also used on for example the TST/AST-40 strats. A set of Kluson type tuners covers the holes of the old ones. I used a set of locking Klusons on my MAT.
