I got a Tokai Super edition with a neck and middle single coil and a Humbucker. Push pull volume knob and a tone knob and a 5-way switch. The two single coils are dead/ open. What does the battery do? There is a mysterious black potted clump in the cavity wired into everything... Is this a sustainer?

Photos would help. My suspicion is that someone put an active humbucker in there and disconnected the passive middle and neck pickups as they don't work wellal alongside actives
