Living in Japan

Post by cashcow » Wed Mar 12, 2014 7:00 am

Stumbled across some videos made by 2 Canadian women living and going to school in Tokyo. The first few are about apartments. Check out the sink on top of the toilet. 8)

And a cake cafe

Gonna drop them a line and see if they can hook me up with some Dry Zs

Was it the cakes or the girls? I think the vids are pretty cool for what they are. There's a good one on racism.

That photo must be from the Kanamara Matsui festival. An explanation here: http://www.fest300.com/festivals/kanamara-matsuri

Curiously, it's not at all sexual.

I'll be off to Japan in 5 weeks time. Strange place. Looking forward to it. :D

If that girl can`t find plain white toilet paper, she isn`t looking hard enough...it`s all we buy and it`s in every drug store in the city. I have seen apartments that are 4.5 tatami mats...smaller than what the first girl is living in. She talks of Japan like it`s the same everywhere...it isn`t, places vary in size and cost.

Second girl...true, it can be expensive to rent a place...you have to give a month to the rental agent and at least one month to the landlord...that money doesn`t come back, then you have to give them a deposit of one, or two...could be more...months rent. In this city, there are people who simply will not rent to non Japanese, thats it, if it`s against the law here it is not enforced so don`t bother calling anyone to complain. If you`re coming to Japan better read up on your rights here, you might get into trouble without even knowing what you`ve done, read up on just what the police can do with you...how long they can keep you, getting access to a lawyer...things we take for granted in many western countries are different here, very different so better read up before coming.

If you love cheesecake and are coming to Japan, get someone to teach you how to make it before you came...what they call cheesecake in Japan is not cheesecake. I`m not big on sweets so those girls would know more than I do however I find cakes and puddings not nearly as sweet as they are in Canada, in fact I prefer the Japanese versions.

I don't think these women are generalizing. They were students living in Tokyo and they made it clear that there's a lot of options as far as living situations go. People have to do their own research. As far as toilet paper goes, maybe the shops they go to always run out of white.

The Japanese versions of deserts looked great. I'd go to Coco's given the opportunity. :P

Does anybody really give a shi'ite about the colour of toilet paper???
It is not a fashion statement - it's used to clean your bum.
Unless you're going to wash it clean and hang it out to dry as part of recycling I'm sure the colour makes little difference to the end result.
The world will not end today...because it is already tomorrow in Australia.

years ago it was the dye they used for colored the toilet paper that was the problem.
