Hi. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with an LS 70 (sicamore top)and could give me an idea on sound vs a maple top.
Thanks

The LS70 has a maple top. The sycamore part is just the flamed veneer that lies on top of it. It is a fraction of a millimetre thick and doesn't affect the sound so don't worry about it 8)

Have to say, that the sycamore flame looks nothing like the real deal. Plain top or maple flame or maybe a quilt all the way :)

I agree that each has a fairly distinctive appearance and you can usually spot one from the other, but that's not the same as saying sycamore looks bad or is not 'real'.

I htink it's really hard to tell them apart. They have very similar grain patterns with similar cross checking on the 1/4 sawn stuff.

Here is my old 1985 LS80(?) with what I believe was sycamore veneer top.
