GIBSON USA VS ORVILLE JAPAN

Post by japanstrat » Thu Jan 02, 2014 3:18 am

Came across this GIBSON USA VS ORVILLE JAPAN clip.

Seems like it's a Terada K Orville with stock PAF like (around 7.5k or so) Ceramic magnet pickups.

The Gibson has 490R(neck), 498T(bridge) pickups

Gibson 490R (Alnico2) 7.2 - 7.83 KO

Gibson 498T (Alnico5) 12.32-13.46 KO

I thought the K Orville did pretty well seeing that there is a bit of a difference in the pickups and also their magnets.

yeah it's a good clip. The Gibson is a little nicer in my opinion. But not much. A little "rounder" sounding.

Considering that's the low end Orville, I'd say it shows pretty clearly that the MIJ pickups are very nice. Put some Greco pickups in either of those and they'd BOTH sound better! haha..
