Hello guys! My name is Jakub and I am 19, I am from Slovak Republic and just bought Tokai LS150 trough yasoohmusic on Ebay.
Now I am awaiting the guitar to come :) . I have Gibson R7 aswell so I am pretty curious how will the LS150 stand to this guitar.
I?ve read much topics on this forums about LS 150/160 and decided to buy it, as it?s basically 1/2 price of Gibson R8.

By the way admins, why forums says my email is banned?

Exactly the one that would complete my collection and make me happy until the end of times...(aaaaah tobacco burst on a plain top is heaven)

Oh yeah! **** nice guitar! Plain tops with some tiny figures and details are the best looking tops on LP and tobacco burst really is the cherry on that.

However despite of my fetish for plain tops I am having NGD with my new flame top :lol: My Tokai-free period is over (again). Here she is, 2004 LS200, low weight one piece body, ebony fingerboard, sd seth lovers, case, etc.

Aaaw thank you guys! She?s an 2009 so basically LS160 now. I have one quiestion for you Tokai maniacs. I think my nut is cut too high, on my Gibson, the strings on firts frets are nearly touching and so the playing is very easy, but on the Tokai it?s more than 1mm from frets, and more than 2mm from the freatboard, which makes playing on first 5-7 frets very hard, is this a flaw or are the Tokai nuts cut high so everyone can has it cut by a luthier to their taste? Thanks

Most of the nuts are cut almost perfectly, occasionally you'll find one cut slightly high, which is better than too low...get a GOOD tech to file the slots down a bit.
Don't pay the tech for a setup, just pay him to cut the nut a little lower while you wait, and stand next to him and watch him if you can. :)

Why so down on guitar guys trying to earn a living? And I don't know about you but I don't just walk in, plop my guitar down and expect to see him drop what he's doing while I hover over him to watch. If they guy's any good, he's got a bunch of guitars ahead of yours. Why do I want to watch him file my slots?
 
Ffs this thing drives me crazy, due to high cut nut, my strings are out of tune like first 7 frets. I can adjust neck, TRC, bridge as much as I can and it?s still out of tune when playing first frets. This sucks so bad guys, on 1400 dollar guitar this shouldn?t happen. And due to the nut, the action sucks aswell, high as fckin mountain! Can?t wait to see the luthier, I am a bit disapointed. :roll:
 
Nevermind I got so pissed off after all this that I actually fixed it myself and saved some money lol. I gently removed the nut from the slot, it?s fitted very firmly, it?s very easy but you have to be careful. Then I ran it trough sandpaper 100 few times, and checked the height after every 10 swings or so (allways check it, if you sand it too much it will buzz on open strings) and now the nut fits perfectly to my taste. Just slightly above 1. fret (hair close) and now the guitar plays like butter :D . YEAH!

No no, I don't deny the guy a right to earn a living...but I've seen too many guys posing as guitar techs, they talk a great game but don't have the hands or knowledge to be a great guitar tech.

If you know your tech is good, and he personally is going to work on your guitar, then by all means book it in and fetch it when it's ready...but if he's a good friend then I'm sure he'll offer to tweak the nut slots whilst you wait. :)

One cool/clever thing with Tokais, pointed out to me by a great luthier.
Did you notice that there's no nitro or poly finish between the neck binding and nut...so if you remove the nut you don't crack/chip the finish on the binding..on many Gibsons they spray the finish onto the binding and nut at the same time, so they're stuck together.

Well done on doing it yourself, glad it's playing to it's potential now. :)
 
Yes, there?s no finish at all just pure wood. I was a little scared at first but the nut came out pretty easily I just twisted it a little with pair of pliers and that was it. After all this I think it?s great they make the nuts so high. Everyone can tweak them to their taste, but not everyone can have courage to do it themselves.

I love the guitar now! :D Like it says on the headstock, LOVE ROCK dude! 8)

Most MIJ guitars attach the nuts with two or three drops of glue - whilst the American counterparts fully adhere the bottom with adhesive slathered on.

Very true - a nut I once replaced on a Love Rock came out with very little effort (a gentle tap with the end of a file). In contrast I once replaced the (horrifically badly cut) nut on a Gibson Flying V - lord knows what they had used to glue it, but it was not budging, I had to go nuclear, and it ended with pieces of the nut chipping off before the actual nut was coming out - not a good situation. Eventually it relented and you could see what looked like an entire pot of industrial strength adhesive left in the slot. All in all not a fun 20 minutes.
