I am really interested in finding another vintage MIJ guitar. This time I'm looking for a goldtop. As far as for Tokai's, I've only seen the ones with humbucker pickups. Did Tokai make any goldtops with brown back and P90's?

If not, who did? Orville, Greco, Burny, Navigator? I'm talking about vintage (older than 1985)

Thanks for any help guys! And, if you have one for sale. PM me.

Like the one seen here (first one when you scroll down)

You're talking about a 53 - 56 goldtop which came equipped with P90's.

there are Burny, Greco, & Tokai out there that fit what you're after but they are few & far between ....... good luck ............

Edwards makes a nice one too:

And there's always this. Not vintage, of course, but rather nice.

So Tokai also did version with P90's?

Correct me if I'm wrong, the P90 is both longer and less wide than a humbucker? I mean, I can't fit an P90 in a humbucker goldtop without modifactions.

Answer to self, I found another one on tokaiguitar.de as well:

Anyone know where I get the pricelist from tokaiguitar.de?
It doesn't feel too good to be buying new instruments but I hope Tokai are still made with equal/close to equal quality.

I've got a 1983 Love Rock (somewhere between an LS50 and 80) and a recent Anniversary (the GA150Q), and would have absolutely no qualms at all about buying a new Love Rock. Tokai are still making very, very good guitars. Wouldn't like to be in a position where I had to choose one over the other, but if I was, the the Anniversary would win fairly easily.

Tokai made two very early '80s P-90 gold tops; one with a gold top & the other ALL gold
IMO, they are pretty **** difficult to source :-?

I can understand anyone's concern about purchasing newer vs. vintage but I like both old & new.
I believe Tokai has very high quality built into their newer stuff.

Just make sure you ask all the right questions before buying  ................

I have to say again: If vintage Tokais are significantly better than new ones, playing one must instantly make you sprout angel wings and ascend into heaven.

Because the new ones are some of the best guitars available for any money.

Burny RLG-60 looks very promising:

But it seems to be multi-piece back. How much does it really matter to sound if it's solid back? I have a 1985 Tokai LS80 and I'm not sure if it's multipiece (transition year for LS80), if it is, it's a work of art because no seams are visible (trust me, I've searched).

The goldtop Tokai's with P90's seems to be almost impossible to find so maybe I should focus on getting a Burny RLG60 and just forget about the back issue... if it is an issue? :)

Also, what should I ask the seller about? Are there made in korea/china samples of these guitars? Have to read some more.

And to YOGA64, I'm interested, as you might understand :)

If you can tell the difference in tone/resonance between a two-piece and one-piece back then you have better ears than me (and most sensible guitar builders). It's 99.999% aesthetic.

theres a 54 orville on Rinkya at the moment (someone buy it for me :) )
love the tone this guy gets, p90's and that wrap bridge hmmm

Good luck with the Burny... I've seen 2 available over the past 3 years, and Forum members bought both of them.
