Hi Guys,

Just to let you know that I now have come accross on the web 2 ObG ES335 that were made at Fujigen. Both guitars were 1995 made.

All the previous information lead me believe that these guitars were only Terada made, but gladly I can say that that is not the case. I don't know for how long time they were made at Fujigen but I have only seen 1995 serial numbers.

Does anyone know the story about these Fujigen made ES335's? Any idea about production years?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Joop

Hi,

The first step of ID'ing a Fujigen is the non letter prefix but you have already dealt with that.

So, I look at how the word "by Gibson" is written. If the b is open then it is a Terada and also the G is more just like the G in normal Gibsons with Fujigen ones.

Finally, in most cases the "by Gibson" is written in a yellow'ish colour rather than a white'ish colour.

So, there you go, that is my train of thought... Any errors?

Here is the one that I saw:

The other one was a cherry one, offered on ebay by villager.

Any further thoughts on them?

Cheers!

Joop

I found a 1995 OBG Semi Acoustic with a no G serial as well.
Maybe Fujigen did a run of them for a period in 1995 while Terada was too busy or something.

Usually the OBG Semi Acoustics have a Terada G serial number and then the Orville Semi Acoustics from 1995 to 1998 usually have a Terada J letter and the J letter was also used for the first Terada made Epiphone Japan guitars after 1998 and then Terada changed to a T letter and Fujigen changed to a F letter for the later Epiphone Japan guitars.

Things vary with Fujgen and Terada sometimes swapping around on models for a short period maybe due to how busy they were with other things.

There is a short run of Orville solid bodies with a Terada J serial around 1996 or so and usually the Orville solid bodies from 1993-1998 are no letter Fujigen serials.

Fujigen can make Semi Acoustics but usually prefer to make solid bodies but it depends on the contracts they are after at a particular time. If there are not many solid body contracts around then Fujgen would tend to take Semi Acoustic contracts I would assume and the same with Terada mostly making Semi Acoustics and Acoustics but also taking solid body contracts when they want to or need to.
