Hello everyone,
Thank you for taking time in reading this. My question is are Tokai Lover Rock LSS models made in Japan or some other country? I am looking at getting one of this online, but there is nothing said about where it is made. I know that LS are made in Japan but is the LSS too? Thanks again.

Les Paul Specials right?

The number after the letters is the important thing - if the guitar is a LSS-90 or LSS-195 then it is Japan made.

If it is LSS-47 then probably Chinese I guess.

This is based on the 2010 catalogue, in the 2009 catalogue it was LSS-88 (other two had the same model number/price).
What I mean is that the one you're looking at may not have the exact same number if it is an older model, maybe NOS or second hand, but if it is close then you can be pretty sure about the country. It's all money I'm afraid mate, the cheapos don't come from Japan (and rightly so IMO).

Hi,
This is the link I was looking at. Unfortunately I can not understand it except for price and specs. http://www.kurosawagakki.com/items/detail/30326.html

Does this help?

hi,
Thanks. I looked but still doesn't say where it was made. Also I know that the Japanese use lots of Basswood to make guitars. I looked through ebay and seen the Chinese models but none of them use Basswood. So I am confused.

I'm pretty sure that's made in China, here's that model on the Tokai website:

Sorry mate i should have said that the Basswood models are made in China. Forum member Ozeshin has a basswood Tokai SG from china and it is quite a good guitar...If i was after a LSS for myself i would buy a Japanese model but thats just my preference as the guitar it replicates is mahogany.
