Very sad, though he made it to a good age and was still playing. I went and saw him play when I was in NY a few years ago. He was fantastic and had loads of stories to tell, a real old-school entertainer.

I wonder what the music world would be like today without his invention of multi-track recording?

Some people look at their idols playing a Strat (for me that was Blackmore)and that's enough to jog them into motion and inspire them to learn how to play but for me it was always and WILL always be the Les Paul ...seeing Kossoff,Moore,Frehly,Walsh,Gorham,Robertson, etc etc on a LP made me want to play one:( ...a sad day indeed but he had a damned good innings.
