Large headstock strats are ugly no doubt, but I wonder if the larger headstock because it has a liitle more mass could possibly have a little more sustain?There is clamp on gizmo mainly for basses that is basicaly a lump of steel that attatches to the headstock, whose makers claim just this.Also Bonny Raitt and Ry Cooder continue to use the large headstock design.Do they Know something we don`t? Gabe.

Gabe, that is something that Yngwie Malmsteen claims for the bigger headstock, more sustain due to the larger mass of the neck. I had a Fender Japan ST71-TX in natural gloss a few years ago, lovely looking guitar. I'm quite keen to get a RW board, big headstock, custom colour strat one day when my finances allow.

Nonense! The vast majority of classic Strat tones come from guitars with small headstocks, the fact that a few people get decent sounds from 70s Strats proves nothing.
And Malmsteen has horrible tone. :-?

Surely the problem with the big headstock strat was crappy wood,crappy quality control, a crappy micro tilt that didn`t work, and to add crappy insult to crappy injury ,a crappy three bolt system that could`nt secure the crappy neck properly. Given some decent wood and a four bolt neck,who knows? Anyone ever tried acustom shop , or the Bonny Raitt model?Gabe.
