Just took a chance on a Fernandes Revival '57 Strat in Mary Kaye Finish. I have read that these were issued in 2003. The guitar looks too "new" to be from the 80's. The finish in the photos look more like a dark brown/gold than a Mary Kaye "frost". Does anyone know if they made lower end models in different colors in 2003? Will post pics when it arrives.

Where are you located? Is it my and JohnA's old guitar?

The 2003ish Revivals Kaye's were more of a butterscotch blonde than a "frost", as you put it. Great sounding guitar too!

Definitely needs some pics or a link please, can never get enough Mary Kaye p0rn!

Thanks Youami- I'm in Hawaii. The finish looks even "browner" than your in the pics. It's ebay item #190303495231. Couldn't open your pics but I compared it to yours on another website.

Awesome looking guitar, wish there were some close-ups and better lighting. Not a bad price either I'd say. Guitarsjapan had one similar for sale a while back, though he reckons it's from the 80s:

I've also seen a couple on auctions.yahoo.co.jp from time to time, but that's about it.

Do you think mine could be a RST95? That one on GuitarsJapan does look recent to me. If that one is actually from the 80's, I guess mine could be also. I wish there was a way to tell for sure.

It's hard to tell. I'm a bit confused about the guitarsjapan one as Andrew (the site owner) says that it's a 95, but that it's from the 80s. Though, judging by this link, Fernandes definitely released an rst95 Mary Kaye in 2004:

http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.musictrades.co.jp%2Finstrument%2F2004%2F12%2F025%2F&langpair=ja%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

Who knows? I'm sure Andrew's knowledge of Japanese guitars is far, far superior to mine. The condition of your guitar would make me think that it was more recently made. If it's the same as my old guitar, then it should be a two-piece body with steel trem-block and Vitamin Q capacitor, good specs for a $700 strat!

Thanks for the info-I really appreciate it. The seller stated that the body is
one piece. Also, I noticed that the trem had 5 springs. Did yours have a 5 spring trem also? Do you think the finish on yours was nitro?Anyone come across one that's post 2004?

Can't remember how many trem springs I'm afraid. I did an acetone test on the guitar when I had it, nothing happened, so not nitro.

I'd be very surprised if you had a 1-piece bodied Revival, must be the only one in existence, though not totally outside the realms of possibility I suppose.

Could you post the link to the ad please? I can't find it using the number.

Mike

too bad they don't make that in a rose' neck model

I'm working on refinishing a very light weight swamp ash body, to a similar color, with gold hardware & a rose' board of course :D

No, it's not my old one, grain pattern is quite different, if it really is the colour it looks in the pics it's not a 2003 RST-95G, I've seen a few for sale and they have alll been very light in colour.

Whatever it is it's lovely!!

sure, I'd be happy to post some pics when I'm done :)

It will be loosely based on a 1962 ash bodied Strat with gold hardware & a see thru' blonde finish, that I saw years ago on this web site

Here's a nice RW board Mary Kaye for y'all:

If it has a RW board, it ain't a Mary Kaye! Anyway, that one is a solid cream colour, isn't it? Mary Kayes are translucent blonde.

Still very nice though.
