Hi Magnus,

this is ralfdziminski

let me know which page you'd like read about and I can do a quick translation for you as I don't think Google translate can read images just yet.

I really like the psyco.jp Greco page, it's the one I always use. It saves me from having to buy old Greco catalogues and the like.

We'll, I'm just trying to teach myself about the early Greco strats and how to distinguish between them. It's particularly frustrating as there are Supersound and Super Sounds models and a lot of people confuse the two. For example, many refer to the SE-600 as a "Super Sounds" but I'm not at all sure that's correct.
Basically all you can tell about the pre-Super Real strats would be extremely welcome!
:)

I've been skimming through those catalogues and the differences between an SE-500, 600 and even the 800 are almost negligible.

If those catalogues are to be believed, which sometimes is not recommended, some year the main difference between the 500 and 600 are the pickups (in the early seventies they are divided between "Mike" pickups for the former and "wide range" pickups for the latter; in the late seventies they both use the PU-100 pickups) and the one piece neck on the 600 as opposed to the three piece neck on the 500. The SE-800 is basically the same as the 600 except that it has a lacquer finish.

There's also mention of the SE-500 bodies being made out of either acacia or sen while the 600 bodies are made alder or sen though I'm not too sure about that because most Strat type Greco guitars I see around are made of sen.

Hope that helps, it was helpful for me as well.

Oh yes, and about the Super Sound/Super Sounds guitars: the Super Sound are always higher end and Super Sounds are mid range models.

Great, thanks! Just one more :p
Could a SE-600 from around 1976 be called "Super Sounds" or should it be "a Supersound"?
Kof88 has posted a preliminary schema for the model name and numbers here: http://www.tokaiforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=10865
On that, it seems an early 600 should be called "Early Sixties"?

Oh and if you get hold of another Tokai SS-48 or higher with rosewood board and burst body you know who to call

According to the one I have at moment that list he made sounds about right, even though I have seen many "early 60s" models around.

Also, I did have a Greco SE-600J, the Jeff Beck model, and it was indeed called "Supersound". I also had a pre Super Real "Sparkle Sounds" model once, which is not on that list, and they are either numbered SE-380 or 450, I'm not sure. I have never heard or seen a model called Supacy Sound either.

By the way, I'm about to put my hands on another SS48 with rosewood fretboard, it's in silver though. You know where reach me in case you're interested! 8)

Does it say "Super Sounds" (two words, s on the end) or "Supersound" (one word, no s)?
There seems to be a big difference but everyone seems to confuse the two... understandably...

Oh, dear... those names are hopeless... Do you have a pic?
Anyway, the serial number should give you the year, the old format was month represented by a letter (A to L), then year.
