Hi guys,

I think the title says it all...I'm looking to purchase my first Les Paul and have heard good things about the Burny. I've seen three LP's on the bay and have asked the seller for more info on each...but in the meantime would very much appreciate a more expert opinion.

Any advice on what to look out for and what would be the better purchase would be appreciated.

All the best,

Dave

I'd go with the first one too. I got an early 80's custom, that one looks like a changed trussrod cover. I 've got some later ones too but, the early ones always seem nicer to me, might be nitro too. I take it back, there all heavy 10-11 lbs. too heavy for me.

I would have to disagree; both of the two below Burny RLC models are each under 9 lb. 8)

The ones in the ebay auctions, there 3 posted at the top. There all pretty heavy. Mine ar all under 9 lbs. closer to 8

Hi Dave,

I assume you're in the UK (judging by your ebay page links) so if that's the case don't forget to factor in import duty etc on those lovely guitars!
I reckon you'd be looking at something like another 100 quid on top for one of those babies. Which is fine if you've budgeted for it in advance, but also may make it worth looking for something already in the UK?

Good luck with your search! I wish my first Les Paul had been a Burny, I went the Gibson way 1st off, could've saved myself a small fortune ;)

Thanks for your advice chaps...I am based in the UK CR4ZYTR41N, do you have any idea how import duty would be and how it's calculated??

You pay 17.5 % VAT on the total price including the postage cost, a small amount of Import Duty, 5% I think and a Parcelforce collection fee which is ?12.00

so a guitar that is ?300 plus ?50 postage would in total cost:

?350 +?78.75 (22.5% of ?350) _?12 = ?440.75

What he said!
Really needs thinking about when buying from the US or Japan, it certainly takes the edge off of quite a few 'bargains'!
It's the VAT on the postage that bugs me, why do I have to pay additional tax to the government if I chose to get something delivered quickly??
Its roughly an extra tenner in VAT alone to go for air freight over sea freight from Japan

Anywhere in the EU is OK, you pay no VAT or duty, if you are shopping on ebay remember Switzerland is NOT in the EU

No VAT on purchases from the EU? How come we pay VAT on purchases from the UK then? I thought the whole point of VAT (an EU tax) was that it was the same on purchases throughout the EU?

Each EU contry has it's own VAT rate. If you but a new guitar from a shop in Europe they would apply VAT at source, you wouldn't pay additional VAT in the UK when it's imported.

If you buy a used guitar from a private seller in Europe you pay no VAT at source and no VAT when imported, just the same as if I sold you a guitar I wouldn't add 17.5% to it

OK, I see, thanx. Now I've learned something today, I can go back to bed again.... :p
