Ok - Rich Tone....well....Rich and is wife are off to Sydney in Jan 2010 to visit family......

Simple question to our aussie contingent...where to visit......what to see....and the MAIN QUESTION - which guitar shop?

Billy Hyde Camperdown - part of a chain but has quite a range. And sells drums!

Gallins, Global Vintage Guitars and Jacksons Rare Guitars - All on Parramatta Annandale about 150-200m apart. Gallins for all Gibsons; GV for cool old stuff including Tokai, Greco, Orville, Ricks, Fender USA & Japan, etc as well as new and vintage pedals; and Jacksons probably Australia's premier high end vintage guitar dealer. Also nearby is Sydney Guitar Setups (miracle workers with Australia's only Plek machine) and a specialist bass shop.

Trumps Music North Sydney - Good new stuff, some second hand and just about every Mesa Boogie available!

Music Workshop West Ryde - new Tokais and good smaller brand amps (e.g. BlackHeart).

All except Music Workshop are 10 minutes from the CBD. Music Workshop a little further out say 30 minutes.

Wow - so if I hit Parramatta Annandale i'm going to get a decent selection Aussie Style then?!!

My sister in law is hopefully taking us up to Byron Bay also which i'm looking forward to....as well as a good few barbies....not the dolls.

ALSO - if anyone knows of international cricket games in Sydney 16th jan to 29th? jan 2010, i'll get my bro in law on the case.

Parrammatta billy hydes is a good example of billy hydes. It has like 4 levels of instruments.. And as for trumps music it's good but he's against the idea of tokais... Don't get me wrong he is a very noligable dude had a good conversation. He didn't seem to think that there was anyother guitar that was as good as Gibson or even epiphone... Same kinda story with the mesa amps... But would still be a good stop.

A place I would recomend if you were to come out west is the local guitar shop Windsor Riverside Music. He's the local tokai seller out here. And all the guys are really nice to talk to :)

The Guitar Factory out at Parramatta...
I went to school with the owner..Stan Mobs...and I believe his son runs the store now.
When he and I were growing up we always used to have banter going about how one of us would own the store one day...now he does.
In those days it used to be one little walk-in store...the repair bench was less the a foot from the front counter....
NOW it's three floors of Guitars/drums/amps etc.

Not guitar related

You definitely need to climb the harbour bridge and I recommend the seaside cliff hike from Bronte to Bondi. Also take a walk through the botanical gardens to check out the HUGE bats hanging from the trees, the walk around the harbour is nice too.

I have pics at www.myspace.com/ned911 - you can also check out some pics from my show at Ripley Hall in Harrogate.

Here is what I did - take the bus from Circular Quay to Bronte Beach, hike from Bronte to Bondi. Take bus to the harbor entrance and hike the national park (it's small) then walk down to pub/ferry landing for a beer and lunch.

I spent almost all my life in Sydney... born and lived there for 40 years and Mick spent a few years there as well.
Taronga Zoo...Darling Harbour....The Opera House....Homebush Olympic venue...Catch a Ferry from Circular Quay across to Manly.....The Argyle art center AND the Rocks...go for breakfast(yum Cha) in Chinatown..there is TOO much to do in Sydney....now i live the quiet? rural life in South East Queensland and get completely stressed when i have to cross an 8 lane road when i go down to Sydney for work.
Still one of the most scenic places in Australia though.

My apologies. That should be "Parramatta Road Annandale". Annandale is an inner city suburb and Parramatta Road a main thoroughfare (oddly enough it's the road from Sydney to Parramatta ...).

Hi Richard,

Where in Sydney are you staying?

All the above suggestions are good. Most of the stuff, I haven't visited, and I live here.

One suggestion I would make is make the trip out along Windsor Road and visit River Music at Windsor. Tokai sellers, obviously, but there are many hidden treasures in the shop.

Pete and Dave are the friendliest guys you will ever meet. Windsor is an Historic town on the Hawkesbury River. Great pubs, laid back pace. The shop is an old sandstone affair. The sandtone blocks have the old convict markings on them. It was once the coach house.

I would like to be able to meet up, and Windsor would be perfect.
