FujiGen obtained a CNC router in mid 1981 for making guitar parts and also began to manufacture their own pickups starting in late 1981 which means that the Super Reals are made in a more hands on way with no CNC computer controlled routing machines used and the Mint Collection were made with CNC computer controlled routing machines and it also means that the Super Reals have Nisshin Onpa (Maxon) made pickups and the Mint Collection have FujiGen made pickups.

The Super Reals usually have a medium tenon that often has dowels

In the 1981 catalogue the truss rod cover changes from a Gibson style to a curved style and the EG500 and EG480 and EG450 have Super Power logos and the customs don't have Gibson split diamond inlays.
The 1981 Greco EG800B, EG800R, EG800S, EG800T has no Super Real logo and some could have 1980 serial numbers.

japanstrat:

I was in the midst of purchasing a 1980 Greco EGF-850 at the time you posted this good information. I think I'd disagree on the highlighted information:

EGF850: Mahogany one layer body, Maple two piece top, Red Sunburst finish, Mahogany one piece neck, Indian Rosewood Fingerboard, PU-2 pickups.

Here's an actual picture of the upper portion of the board. I've been around a long time looking at Brazilian and this appears to be such. I could be wrong ... and if I am, that's OK. It is one gorgeous hunk of wood. Thanks again for your post. It was very helpful. Joe

The catalog information is correct, it is a translation.

In 1980, it is known, that Brazilian Rosewood was also used on the EGF850, due to an abundance at that time, Brazilian Rosewood was standard for the EGF1000 and above in 1980, then in 1981 only the EGF1200 and above have Brazilian Rosewood.

Sometimes Grecos will vary from the catalogue specs but most Grecos will be near the catalogue specs.

hi
i know that black egc :D :D :D :D :D got it a week ago .... very light but it sounds very good .... a 4 piece top and 2 piece body .... long mint tenor .... big oil caps .... wrong knobs ,,, the rest is org(the switch has been changed) .... and the pickup number with a 5 first ...and it has a lot off clouding on the bod? ....
all the best otto

if its flamed..

does this automatically qualify as a super real EGF?

because I borrowed my friends LP.

its flamed, but doesn't have that super real script on the headstock, plus its pretty light like an Edwards LP. the neck is fatter than my EGF.

PUs was removed by seller.

Help?

TIA.

remember one layer mahogony back does NOT mean one piece mahogony back, all 850's and 1000's and 1200's have 2 or sometimes with 850's 3 piece backs, and 1800's have 1 or 2 piece centre seamed backs...
