Hello,

I'm in the maket for a decent Tokai strat - anyone got any ideas or thoughts on value and authenticity of this one...

Thanks a lot in advance for any help.

Looks genuine to me, 1984 from the s\n. Good price at the moment. These are going to start getting more expensive with the current exchange rates.

Here is a '80 SS40 in very good condition in germany.
Seems the seller will only post to germany, but ask him.

Think that might be a 1980 SS38.......I have the exact same guitar for sale. It has brand new medium jumbo frets and I'd like to get $400 for it. Don't know where JOHNNYFRIENDLY is (wish you guys would put where you live on your profiles  ) and while I'm willing to ship international, with shipping and duties, it might be better to look locally - whereever that is:

Agreed. Assuming he's in the UK, the first SS posted looks fine, though probably a lower model like an SS36 or 38? If you can get it for ?250, that should be a good buy, though it might go for more. Hard to tell right now, the market seems strange, some things sell, some things don't.

Hello again,

Thanks for the help. I am based in the UK - apologies for upsetting people so much by not having put my location - you can rest easy now that you know.

Atta boy - thank you. It's helpful to all of us - particularly if you are looking for something.

The serial no tells us its an 1984 (along with the logo, wrong type for 1980) ?250 would be a good price. Its pretty close to what I paid for mine 18mths ago from Japan (inc shipping\tax).

They are nice guitars. Played a number of genuine 70's Fenders and my SS is easily as good as if not better. They are the last of the Tokai bargins imho.

That yellowish one looks really great :)
It's in the UK also!

5 silver stars i EU for sale now and two more in japan. The buy now ones have fantasy prices.

Bidding on the black one in germany just went crazy, I was thinking about buying it but for that price I'd rather get a higher end.
That has to be a SS-38 right? Not a SS-40 as stated in the ad.

The number is relative to the cost in yen x 1000 or 38000 yen. Mine's the same year as the one for sale but mine with a 38 sticker. Could be that there was a price increase that same year to 40,000 yen but I don't think so. I'd say it's a 38.

Well no offense but IMO that is way to much for a budget guitar, which I assume it was intended to be. Rather a SS-60 then .. :)
But the currency conversion plays it's part also.
