I have a question about Orville by Gibson Les Pauls. I've heard the lower end LPs are Orville and the high end replicas are Orville by Gibson. My question is this. Should it actually say 'Orville by Gibson' on the headstock? I have only seen one with 'Orville by Gibson' on the headstock and that was a LP Custom clone.

Any help and advise would be great.

Thanks,

Phil

So there may be Orville by Gibson LPs with just 'Orville' written on the headstock, not 'Orville by Gibson'?

Thanks for the info UK. Much appreciated dude.

I guess there was a time(LATER PERIOD) where all Orvilles became ORVILLE only( by Gibsons ones-high end became Orville,so there were difficult to tell sight unseen).Orvilles came with a serial number(I guess they all begins by G plus a numbers),there must be the only way for dating.

I have heard that the "Orville by Gibson" models have U.S. pickups, and some may even be lacquer finished. While Orvilles have Japan sourced pickups, and poly finish.
