Fakai?

The fact that it's new and being sold out of Thailand, which is notorious for producing fakes of everything, is suspect enough. But, correct me if I'm wrong, Tokai hasn't produced Explorers in Japan for quite some time now have they? Also, every Tokai MIJ I've seen has the serial imprinted or etched into the laquer at least, not printed on the guitar like this one. Anyone else have thoughts? If it is real, I agree with John - it looks sweet!

In that case, sweet guitar! I would still be a little suspect of buying from Thailand though.

Thanks for the pics Rich - if you look at the back of the headstock on your pic, and then the one on eBay, you'll see why I thought it was a fake. The 'Made in Japan' on yours is printed in small black print, as it is on my LS-150, but on the eBay explorer in Thailand, it's in larger white print and the print direction is flipped 90degrees as well. Seems very 'MIC' to me.

Hi,
The same seller just sold a high end Tokai Cat's Eyes acoustic that looked like the real deal.

He also sold a custom made James Tyler guitar for over $3000 (again recently, and feedback is not in yet)--not the kind of thing a typical scammer would try to sell--a rare, not that well known boutique guitar. Problem is, the seller has low feedback and no apparent record of guitar sales previously--especially guitar sales feedback. He could be a perfectly legitmate seller, with a real guitar. If you really want it, ask lots of questions and pay by Paypal!

I have an '84 Tokai Explorer (made in Japan serial no.4023061)

Awesome guitar it is too!

Matches the Ibanez Flying V that I bought years and years ago.

Gotta love those Japanese Lawsuit (can I say....copies?)
