It's a 1980s model - you'll find the information regarding specification in the tokairegistry catalogues, look for 85 or 86. I think they were mahogany top/body and neck in those days with Tokai's PAF type humbuckers. a friend of mine had one in the late 80's and it was a superb instrument. good luck with yours. tony

The serial number isn't 2002 and the split diamond inlay on the headstock was from the 80's - maybe 1989 if the 9 at the front indicates the year. The 2000 catalogue shows customs with a 'flower?' type inlay. It could be that Tokai were using the split diamond headstock until right until the late 90s but the catalogues suggest a different design. Tokai dropped out of circulation outside Japan for most of the 90s so I can't say - it's certainly the headstock they used in the 80s, it doesn't look like the one that's featured in the 97 or 99 Tokai catalogues:

You might have to do some more digging on the registry and date it from its serial number.

According to the tokai registry page the guitar should be built in 1998.

The catalog with the models from 1998 is not on the Tokai registry page.

Anyone out there who has the 1998 catalog?

Didn't Tokai change the headstock inlay to the "4 diamonds" pattern in the early to late '80's, and then to the "flower" in the '90's (?).

The Gibson style inlay hasn't appeared for some time.
