hello everybody how r u? i am from japan and a guitar mania and love tokai too. i am a guitar salesman and working for the music store here in yokohama japan. today is my first time here so i just picked up this subject.

yes tokai has the custom shop and they basically make anything like their
guitars. it usually takes about 6 months to finish the guitar if the order is
from within japan so maybe a bit longer for those of you in europe and
australia and..............only a major restriction i heard from this year is that tokai so far has no more brazillian rosewood for any use and no schedule to get them again for the future. so thats a bummer. the model like LS380 which had a brazillian fingerboard is no more and it will have either an indian rosewood or african rosewood fingerboard sure. maybe someday brazillian will be back but not so far, anyways hope for better..........................

anyways, thanks for reading my hello post here and let me join to the forum good from now on. it was nice to meet you all here. later and
good day!

tokai joe..............

:p :p :p :p :p

heres very good pics of the new 2007 LS380 violin finish and ES155 blonde.
very nice both right?.......later......j

Welcome to the forum TOKAI JOE.

Just for clarifiaction.

I was told there is not any Tokai Custom Shop by a source I trust.
I would like to ask you if by Custom Shop you mean a separate facilitie or any space where elder workers make these Custom Shop instruments or there are some special orders(small runs) in the same facilitie as the rest of regular instruments...I do remember back in 2003 Yoshi told about a special order system on his website(Honduras mahogany necks in regular Love Rocks) and it was told to be possible on Cat?s Eye acoustics in catalogues....

Thank you in advance.

Hey, Tokai Joe, any chance you can persuade those nice people at Tokai to make a run of Gibson 330 type guitars with P90s? I'm sure a few people from here would love one.

hey mick, luis, stratman, big willie, thank you very much for welcome me.
i emailed tokai yesterday and just got their reply right now. its about their
custom shop and the guitars they would possibly make for us.

first for the luis question. tokai sure does make custom guitars for us in
their factory and usually it takes about 6 months. what you wanted to know
was that whether tokai has the custom shop saparately from their main
factory buildings along with the elderly finest chraftmen saparetely or not.
like fender usa or gibson usa, in the different buildings apart from the main.
i never really wonder about their buildings and the special craftmen but
from all the info i heard so far there isnt any saparated department called
"the custom shop". we call it so anyway but its just like the custom orders
being made with all the other guitars on the line. as long as they take orders,
we thought its no problem but for the hardcore tokai mania like you it
matters huh......you wish they have the official custom shop there............
i understand that...............our dream guitar place !!!!!!!! but sorry not yet...

now heres what tokai said in the email. this is the rule between they and
us. when i asked them before briefly what they can make and they just
briefly mentioned most anything like their guitars. we can read the same
explanation on the tokai uk site and it says they will make anything......
but the next question was that anything like anything or anything like
their guitars from the past til today or anything like the guitars they have
on the catalog this year. i hoped they would do most anything like
any guitars they have ever made until today, like fender custom shop.
as long as we pay for it, all possible like dream. but it wasnt the case
with tokai unfortunatelly so far. they dont do that far that much.
what all they can do is these. i think this rule applies to anyone anywhere
from the official distributers. from euro to uk to australia to japan to......

@the guitar must be one of their current models in the catalog.
this is no matter if the catalog is any countrys version.

@any kind of wood you want from all the wood they have now.
no brazillian from this year so far..................

@any color you want from the color chart on the catalog.

@they will do your request on the hardware but not anything.
only the basic hardware they have in the factory you can choose
whatever from.............so no floydrose i guess...............

these 4 things are what they require on our orders, besides that,
only 6 months and so much less $ than gibson or whoever else.......

i guess some of you guys are now feeling sorry a bit but this is the
situation and at least we can still order many kinds of good tokai
guitars now and to the future. you know since the last year,
gibson stopped taking any custom order...........so we are so much
better off that way...................

anyways, tokai looks doing pretty good lately only the brazilian news
was a bummer so hurry to order your dream tokai burst while they
can do their super best!!!!!!!!!!!..............i think i order one soon....

thanks n keep talkin...............ask me more questions if you have.....

Thanks for your reply TOKAI JOE!

You can be sure I?m complete Tokai fan.

It was my guess too.I always have in my mind the factory tour I kindly was able to attend by Tokai head man.It has been a really fantastic experience and that?s the reason I can understand Tokai way of working .I was very very lucky!

I see there is no need for a Custom Shop and I really don?t care about if there is not any.

Regarding Custom Orders(or Custom Shop orders if someone prefer to say) I was lucky enough to try one from a very close friend who kindly visited me, and I can say it was a really very good guitar, warm and responsive, not so good as my 320 which is really really good.Better than any G. Standard I?ve tried, better fit and finish, more playable it was a different feel, being this particular Tokai a guitar to keep....

Regarding a 6 month wait,it?s worth if the guitar is so good as usual is.
I would not mind to wait if I get the right guitar I dream.

It?s a shame no more brazilian in Tokais but I guess it?s because current CITES control and the like....I?m guessing if orders done by shops before this would have brazilian however...

Thanks ashita ... no ... Tokai Joe for all those interesting infos

so I guess if someone order a firebird wich they never made in japan it wil be a no no.

i am sure that all of you already know and have seen this 2006 tokai
japanese catalog but anyway all these models that are made in japan
are what they would build for us by the custom order......j 8)

Hi Tokai Joe,

Are you sure of the "four rules" ? Who did you talk to ? I can't
disclose my position, but I have different views/evidences.

Do you live in Yokohama ? I am in Tokyo. Can we have an off-line
meeting ?

8) this guitar was just bought by "hunter, bob from philadelphia" from japan last week and its one of the rarest tokai les paul replicas ever built..............

the specs,

@LS300 from 1995/6 which tokai only made 7.
@LS300 was the prototype for LS320 which later became LS380.
@brazillian rosewood fingerboard.
@super tiger flamed hard maple top.
@african mahogany 1 piece back and neck.
@special custom PAF replicas made by gotoh pickup company.
@the highest quality japan pots plus blackcat condensers.
@the top curve was molded after the original 1957 les paul goldtop.
@the color was taken from some original gibson burst.

the man who built this guitar said its almost a miracle for this guitar to
be in the used market especially somewhere like ebay so if we ever found
one of those 6 more left somewhere in the world we should get it no matter what. to the tokai manias, its a priceless more than dream stuff.....
no doubt!!!!!!............................................................j
