In the NYC Craigslist, there's a brand new LS-135 in VF for sale for $1700.

Is the price fair?

Thanks,

For that price, if you shop around you might be able to pick up a Gibs.n Historic R8, plaintop mind you.

If You really are into Tokai's WELCOME to the addictive club.
I have serius GAS for another Tokai

I don't know the value in the states for a Tokai but what I can see is that they are rare as hens teeth in the US & Canada
Do a search on flebay and see what you come up with
TOGPS , one of our german experts will know for sure

The R8 is for sure not the better guitar. LS135 features the exactly same specs. You may get the LS135 cheaper in Japan - but here you may have the possibility to test and hear the guitar before you buy. A huge advantage - often underestimated!!

I'm a total newbie. In what ways is the LS-135 better than the Gibson Historic R8?

It's not really - and I'm sure I'll get some flames for that, this is the Tokai Forum and all

Actually they are very, very similar in details and construction.
The big difference is the price.
The new LS-135 in the ebay link would have been $1300 shipped to the US.
A new Gibson R8 VOS would cost $2300 to $2500

I'm not a Gibson "hater" actually, the current historics are fantastic guitars, but the new Tokais are a tremendous value,
and the old Tokais....well, they have a "mojo" all their own, and to me, just as cool as Gibson 8)

This is all very helpful and informative. I appreciate everyone's time.

Can someone explain the difference between the R8 specs and R9 and other R specs? Also is the Jimmy Page reissue based on the R8 or another spec?

Or if the explanation is too detailed - any info links?

Again, many thanks.

Basic info:
The Gibson re-issues are based on a model year R8=1958
There are R6 R7 R8 R9 and R0=1960

The Jimmy Page Reissue is a replica of his No. 1 guitar

Great Gibson info (look under the custom shop):

The Les Paul Forum:

The Tokai site:

The Edwards site (they have a cool Jimmy Page replica):

Notice the Edward's Jimmy Page model has a push-pull circuit?

Can anyone explain what that is? And more importantly, how does it affect the sound of the guitar.

Thanks,

LP Newbie
