Can anyone help with the following. I have an old acoustic, 'Tokai Gakki Hamamatsu' on the head stock, having a label inside reading 'TW-250' which I guess is the model number, and a date 49-8-21, which I guess is 1949.

I can't find a reference to this manufacturer making acoustics at that time - any info apprciated.
 
I'm guessing, but it's more likely the number 49 in the date refers to the Japanese year, rather than the Western, Christian year. In Japan, dates are still often listed by the year of the current emperor. This would likely have been from the 49th year of the Showa period (Emperor Hirohito)--which starting at 1925 would give you 1974 by the western calendar. If you had some photos this might help others help you identify this better.
