Happy 26th B-Day to Johnny Lang today!!

I remember seeing Johnny perform on his very first US Tour about ten years ago; I saw him at the Hard Rock Cafe in Dallas, Texas and WOW what a show. To this day I still haven't forgot the singing voice coming from that skinny little teen age kid; it sounded like the voice of a seasoned bluesman with decades of experience

His first album (Lie to Me?) was great and he was just a kid. Haven't cared for much of his stuff beyond that album. Same with Kenny Wayne Shepard.....

Yes, Lie To Me is a fantastic album; very nice.

Seeing Jonny (I just figured out there is NO H, lol) perform live is so different than listening to him on record. It's kinda like hearing Eric Johnson on record then seeing him live; two different worlds!!!!!!!!!!

I saw EJ 14 times in 29 months; WOW, I really miss Texas...................................

What is, "that Shreveport Thing"? I know there's a KWS connection there but Jonny?

Jonny Too Both are from Shreveport. I heard KWS is back there. I don`t Know about Lang.
I am originally from the Ark- La - Tex area of East Texas. So I still hear from old buddys ect.. ambout some of music going ons.

Nope....Jonny Lang was born in Fargo, North Dakota......Lived in Minneapolis at the time they released Lie to Me.

I remember when nobody knew who KWS was but I do remember when his father, Ken Shepard (spelling?) was THE DJ at Shreveport's very first FM rock station, KMBQ, in the 70s.

I remember going to the SRV & Double Trouble show in 1983 at Veterans Park in Shreveport. We were all wondering just who that little kid was sitting up there on Stevie's amps, and how he managed to swing getting such a great 'seat' for the whole **** show. Wasn't until years later I figured out from an interview that the little kid was a 7 year old KWS; lucky twit......................... :lol:................

Last I heard KWS was living in Benton with his wife Hannah, Mel Gibson's only daughter.

Funny that Kenny loves Fender Strats but he married a Gibson........ .............

I have always heard Lang had a Shreveport connection - and have been told he was also from there more than once. - If i am wrong It is my mistake.

George Carllin was a DJ in Shreveport in the 50s-60s I forget what station also the old KLIF in Dallas.
KWS had a name around there from the start. I left that part of the country in 87 And I knew who he was then.

I was born & raised in Shreveport, spent 26 years in that Hell hole of a home town before moving to Dallas the first week of 1987. KWS would have been almost 10 years when I left Shreveport in '87.

I was in Dallas for 15 years before moving to Minnesota (Lang's old stomping grounds) and I never even heard of KWS until I had been in Dallas for nearly 10 years.

There's sh!t loads of guitar players from that region; one of my favorites was Danny Johnson. Danny & Jay Davis played with Rod Stewert for a while but they had a band called AXIS. I remember when they did the 'Axis Homecoming Show' in November 1978 at the Municipal (James Burton?) Auditorium, in Ledbetter Heights no less. Danny was a guitar player's guitar player; he was the sh!t. If you can ever get a copy of their album 'It's A Circus World' get it, and play it, and paly it, and play it.........! Last I heard Danny was playing with John Kaye/Steppenwolf..............

I had heard of a kws in 87 - some little kid who was killer guitar player it was Shepard.
Yes Shreveport and Texarkana are s**t holes bad pollution no way to make your life better list goes on. I left the part of the country to Kansas City and then to Dallas in 92. I have never looked back.
Fyi I had a Fender Jaguar stolen from me in 77 on North Market I was playing in a country band we had a gig in Bossier we had stopped to eat before we drove back - they broke into the truck. oh well.
You and I are not the only ones with that opinion of the Ark-La- Tex
I have seen a Lot of shows at the Auditorium and the Old Hirsh coliseum. And The Bossier strip and Shreve Square.
The Hayride is now in Haughton?

I still have family in Caddo & Bossier Parishe; my Mom & Dad live barely a stones throw down the road from KW's digs in Benton.

I will always call Shreveport/Bossier home; I know way too many people there and have too many memories and connections there. I may never live there again but it will always be home. Everyone I grew up with that's dead now is buried there; nearly all my extended family is either living within a 100 mile radius of there or buried there. I go back once or twice a year and it's really good to see old friends I still know that I went to first grade with.

My first concert was in Hirsch Coliseum, July 28, 1976, when I was 15. It was Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow with Dio & Cozy Powell; they were touring for the Rainbow 'Rising' album. My second concert was also in Hirsch the next month in August; the KISS 'Destroyer' Tour!!!!!! We used to smuggle in EVERYTHING into that place, even with all the cops there; fifths of whiskey, six packs, bongs, bags of everything that one could smoke, pop, or snort; it was the 70s after all.........I remember walking into Hirsch sooooo many times you didn't even need to smoke to get a buzz, it was nuts, contact high city. Just some of the bands we saw there; Styx, Rush, Ted Nugent, ZZ Top, Bob Seger, Judus Priest, Van Halen, every band that played from 76 to 86 that played there I saw 'em. I saw Randy Rhodes play with Ozzy there in March 1982; he only played 3 more shows after that one and he was gone .........One of my favorite shows was in 1978 at the Municipal; Rush touring for Hemispheres and UFO touring for Lights Out, Micheal Schenker!!!!!!!

Yea, Hirsh was that way. I`ve seen Kiss, ZZ twice. Rush, Foghat Remember Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush? I think that was at Municipal - One of the first and to this day one of the best concerts I have seen. I still got old ticket stubs-stored somewhere.
That region of the country I never liked- I got my reasons , I am from there- My mother passed in 97 I only been back to Texarkana 3 times in 10 years. Most of my family is also in that area.
Shreveport once to go to the casinos. In 20.
I did crazy things back then but I was lucky I never got in trouble.

Frank Marino & MR was at the Municipal & it was one of the best concerts, just as you said. That show was one of six shows that they used tapes from for the 'FM & MR Live' album. That is also one of the best live albums ever, and the BEST EVER version of 'Johnny B Good'.

Sorry to hear about your mother passing. It's really tough when someone close passes, and I can imagine even more so when it's a parent.

Yeah, I did a lot of crazy stuff back in the day; got pulled over at 3 AM by a LA State trooper when I was trippin' , that was very strange to say the least. Got pulled over in Shreveport one morning about 1 AM with 20 ozs. of weed in my car. Good thing they didn't have dope sniffing dogs back then; I'd have a big record.

It's quite amazing to have lived what me and many others lived through, seeing others not survive it, figuritively and literally. I knew people that got caught up in the wrong circumstances at the wrong time, ended up getting killed, some are in prison for life, some lost their minds to drugs, and a lot of us like me made it through all that, learned from it and moved forward with our lives. Wow, what a crazy life it was back then.............

I still have that album too.
The casinos ( my aunt calls them the boats) came in after I left too. The riverfront doesnt look like it used to. The rest of Shreverport/ Bossier City sitll looks the same. So does Texarkana- And it still smells like paper mills. :-?
The same thing happen after I left Kansas City- Casinos. But KC is nothing like Shreveport or Texarkana.
Late 70`s head down Hwy 71 hit the LA. line when we got to Ada? There was one of those Daquari Shacks never carded anyone. head to the Square or Bossier strip and party. Like I said I was lucky.
