I'm replying to my own post!!

A supplementary question. What in your opinion is the best value (added spec v price) of the current higher end Love Rocks?

Cheers

If the description is correct (Seymour Duncan '59 would be wrong though), it's a LS320 which you can buy (if you find one) new old stock in Japan for ~260,000 Yen.

Concerning your other question: a new LS150 -- IF you can find one...

Lawdy Mama, that shop has some strange Tokais...

Hmm, a relic done in Hamamatsu? Never heard that story... :-?

Thanks for the info Hans-J?rgen.

I like the look and spec of the LS150 but would have to chop in a couple of my guitars to fund it :

Recent LS65 -mint;
1991 Yamaha MSG Standard.

Do you reckon the LS150 would be worth it?

Cheers

First I would try to find one, because it seems they become rare already. And to decide if you really need the higher specs is only up to you. Or in other words: I love my LS60 as much as my LS120 and don't care if one has a veneer and a two piece back or not. But they both differ from each other of course.

@mike: I would be cautious with the shop descriptions, e.g. there's a MIK ALS65 (never heard of one before) with "AA quilted maple top" etc. which just sounds wrong to me. And I also wonder why they don't use the normal model numbers except for that ALS65. If that "AAAAA ... with Honduras mahogany..." really is a LS320, then the best marketing idea would be to call it that way in my opinion. And they should have a COA for it, too.

HANS
YOUR RIGHT BUT I REALLY DONT THINK THE KOREAN TOKS IS A WORRY WITH THE NUMBERS BUT HE REALLY HAS A LARGE STOCK OF THEM AND SOME OF THE MIK ARE SUPEB LOOKING THE JAPANESE ONES ARE THERE OK I HAVE SEEN THE 320 AND ALSO I THINK IT WAS THE 120. MOST OF THE OTHER MODELS ARE THERE ALSO , HE ALSO HAS A LARGE STOCK OF GIBBOS AS WELL. SORRY ABOUT THE CAPITALS DIDNT SEE THEY WERE ON AND AS I AM HOPLESS AT TYPING I WASNT GOING TO DO THIS AGAIN
MIKE

If you can't go for a LS320,I'll go for a LS150 if you decided buying Tokai. There is some difference in quality as far as sound is concerned,it's more resonnat ,a better guitar to me and it comes with Tokai guitar case old replica too(with a 120 euros value).I tried both LS80F and LS150 side by side and I really prefer LS150,not a very high difference but it's there.....And as Hans rightly says it will became collectable as far as it seems it would not be made by now....

Would I be right in thinking that the LS 120/125/130's are new models?
- replacing the 75/90's?

No, the LS120 was the predecessor to the LS125 (flamed maple veneer, two piece back, nitro lacquer, long neck tenon, brass saddles, aluminum tailpiece) while the LS135 is a new model with solid plain maple top, one piece back and LS125 features plus CTS pots, sprague orange drop caps and Switchcraft jack and switch. The LS80 with plain maple top and "normal" features still exists, it was called LS75 then.

 As time goes by the respect for the Korean made guitars will increase. I have only one MIK, an SG that is so "Cream Tone" it's amazing. I bought my first Made in China guitar last week and it is awesome. A Washburn D10 /12 string...best part is I bought it for $99 . List price is close to $500 beautiful spruce top and mahogany back and sides "Wish you Were Here" all day long! In 65' I bought a Domino 12 string from Ace Music in Miami and paid $50 the neck started to bow and within a couple of years the neck ran away from the body!! I still have it , it can't be salvaged , but made of the finest plywood available! TG

I've got a Chinese 'Freshman FA400D' acoustic TG.

It cost ?500 new and I got it on ebay for ?200. It's the best acoustic guitar I've ever played. And I've had my hands on quite a few.

I have been wanting a Love Rock with a nice finish that's different from the usual sunbursts (not that I don't love those, I have 2 guitars with that kind of finish!). I really love the look of that one you have there chrislpp, is it a MIJ? I have seen similar finishes on the MIK tokais, they seem to have more unusual finishes that are easier to come by on the MIK, I am considering getting one of those cause they're pretty good value.

That SG classic style looks pretty appealing too. Anyone played on one of those? I played a tokai LR studio, and double cut jr love rock, which both have p90 style pickups, as well as a few of gibsons with p90 styles (dc faded most recently). Oh and I have tried that MIK Tokai with the p90s and bigsby. Anyway, they say that that they are p100s, so anyone know what guitars has these so I can compare?

I have a a LS 150 and a LS 145S and they are two different animals. Of course the P90's make a big diff. But I will say that there seems to be more quality in the finish of my LS 145s. It's also much lighter and noisier than the humpups on the 150, but thats single coils for you. It may be just the fact that it is not stained on the back or neck and I'm just loving it.

Weird... the finish on my LS150 is absolutely flawless. I compared it to g*bs*ns (including the historics) when I picked it from the shop and I have to say that it mops the floor with all of them in terms of build quality and materials. The Tokai boys did a grand job building this one and I never get tired of opening the case and staring at it in a very idiotic way (think Beavis).

Don't get me wrong , mine was close to flawless, but they left a little red stain on the fret binding. I had my luthier remove it, YA, YA I'm a picky sob. And you are right, I can't find brand G with as good of finish or build quallity. Maybe for $10,000
