Hello everyone! Recently bought a guitar at the local shop as Tokai SS-38. But I noticed some oddities with it.
So here they are:
- No original logo w/ serial number on the headstock, only decal. The serial number(5027646) is stamped on the backplate.
- No model marking on the neck pocket
- The neck marking has a single dash like "-" insted of double like "="
- And the most ineteresting is that the body marking is 'OWX' where "OW" must be Olympic White, but the body is difenetely black.

Normal things with that guitar: All the electronics (wiring, pickups) are absolutely similar to the photos from internet and this forum. The tuners look kinda similar.

I ask for the help of local experts to identify this guitar. Many thanks.

P.S. sorry for my English, im not a native speaker.

Wow that's another curve ball! Looks authentic though. Maybe they had a few sakes too many in their lunch hour at the factory. I have a suspicion that this might be a transition SS model between the old Spaghetti logo and the newer script logo. That is the only thing that makes any sense. What is interesting is that the font of the seven digit stamp on the back plate is identical to the font stamped on neck plates of Springys .This guitar maybe a somewhat hasty reaction to Fender pressure. Congratulations you have a very interesting SS!

An 85 SS, late 85 into 86.
Pickups are typical of a 38 model, as are the tuners.
The neck marking using a - is correct for 85 on, pre 85 is =.
The paint spray pattern missing part of the routing is also typical Tokai, so the OW is an error.
7 digit ser on the neck plate is also correct.

@mdvineng, the 7 digit serial number is stamped on the plastic back plate not the neck plate. Don't you think that this very strange ? I've never seen this before on any Tokai, although the font looks totally legit.

Bizarre

On my moby it looked like the neck plate  on my tablet, I can see it much better :D

The X after the OW indicates the lower end model number 38< 55

There seem to be a bunch of these around 1984/85.
