Hello everyone I just found this forum and I am new to learning about Tokai guitars. I ran across one this weekend at a local guitar shop, I liked the look of it right away and it played great (as good or better than any Gibson LP I've played). I am having some problems identifying this guitar the shop said they thought it was a Korean made model but the S/N and 2 screw cover point to it being a Japan made one.

Does this look like a legit 86 96 or 2016 model from Japan?

Looks like the first number is a "5"

UK export dimple

Looks to be a '85 MIJ Tokai in **** fine shape

I’m going to check it out again tomorrow and will most likely buy it. Where is this export dimple you’re describing?

One more question you may be able to help me with. Do you know what model this is?

Well I bought it today. I feel pretty good about the $500 it cost me. I now know what you meant by the export dimple (the little extra bit on the headstock). Now to figure out the model......Would the Tokai factory be my best best if I provide them the Serial Number?

I doubt Tokai could tell you what it was by the serial number. Take out a pickup or both and look in there and take some pictures... but my guess is that is a TLS50 in VF (finish)

Looks killer !!!

Congrats !!

Here's the '85 catalog

Thanks for the reply Brokentoes. I will pull a pickup or two and take pics when I change strings.

Can't access the first picture/serial number, but that is a beautifully finished guitar.

The maple top looks like a solid finish which has been bookmarked. Never seen one like that before. Lovely.
