How can I conform I have a 1000? Bought a Greco recently. Seller listed it as a 500, but after shipping sent me a message saying he screwed up and I got a killer deal because it’s a 1000. Is there a way I can confirm?[/i]

That would be a EC68-50 model. The EC58-100 model is quite different and has a mahogany top.
The Super Real truss rod cover is a bit misleading since in previous years they used it on the EC-1000 model.

Good news is that they are all pretty good guitars in 1982 IMO.

Thanks! It’s a great playing/sounding guitar. Now the question is get another, or get a Tokai or Burny

Are you sure about that? My Super Real December 81 Greco EG1000 (exact same finish as that one) has a maple top. Same truss rod cover and flower pot inlay.

I can't tell from the picture on that one but Biker, does it have an ebony fret board? Looks like it to me. If it does, I'd say that's a late super real EG1000.

Like mine, it probably has pickups missing a sticker or a stamp?

Yes, I'm sure about that. April 1982 onwards changed. I have the catalogs, read Japanese, and owned a 1982 EC58-100.
All the custom guitars in the Mint Collection Catalog said "Super Real" on the truss rod covers.

I don't doubt that's what the catalog's say, but it's also pretty common knowledge that not everything made was identical to the catalogs. For example they might say a model comes in only one finish but there will be examples of it in other finishes.

So the EC 68 50's had maple tops? That looks like a maple top to me. Did they also have Ebony boards? Again, can't tell what that is by the picture but I was under the impression that ebony was how you determine the higher models over the lower customs.

Also it's closed "O". By the catalog the 82's should have an open "O" so obviously it's got some old stock super real neck on it and isn't "typical" for a mint series.

No ebony board there. Below a board and MOP inlays on an EG58-100 from early 1982. Note that there is no volute on that model.

The OP's guitar has a volute, no ebony board, no waffleback tuners, and no Groove pickups that would be on a 1982 EC58-100.
Lots of confusion for these 1982 customs. You see people list them on Reverb as 1000 Super Real models a lot

Here are examples if the 1982 models with ebony/MOP:

You've got good eyes then. I would also lean towards Rosewood from that picture, but I don't think it's that clear.

So they stopped doing the volute on the 1000/100 models? Cause my 81 has a volute.

I know there is a lot of confusion but I still wouldn't trust the catalogs for accuracy. They did all kinds of weird stuff.

I'll take your word for it though. Just thought the OP might want to post a few more detailed pictures.
