Back in May 2003 I purchased a Tokai Goldstar Strat from Songbird Music in Toronto before they closed their doors.

It was labelled as a "Made in Japan" 57 Reissue. However it doesn't have any markings to identify it. No serial number, no model number.

I haven't taken it apart because I dont know what to look for. Any advice on helping me identify it. I really don't know if it is made in Japan, or if I was taken.

Looks like 3 piece body in alder with a poly finish. I would say it looks like a 57 re-issue. Has a 1 ply pickguard and 6 screw vintage style tremolo/plate. The newer type Tokai's say "Made in Japan" right above the neck block plate. Yours does not. I am not sure when this started though. I know it was there is 2009 and it was NOT there in 2002. So, somewhere in between those years they put it there.

Maybe this is a AST33:

My heart sinks when I see Tokai and Canada in the same sentence.Could you give us some shots from under the hood?It should be fairly straightforward to tell if it is legit.

I'm betting its a Korean made guitar, quite possibly Tokai. Canada did get some legit Korean Tokai's before the fakes rushed in.
