I just picked up a Greco acoustic/electric model GD-800 from TC Gakki in Tokyo. Can't seem to find boo about it on the web (ie googling for hours without a hit). Wondering if anyone on these forums can shed some light. The guy at TC Gakki figured it is early 80s. The pickup in it ain't nothing to write home to mom about but acoustically its got great sound and has a nice look. Has Gotoh tuners and some great detailing around the sound hole which is covered by some sort of rubber ring.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thx,

Would have posted it if I could have found one. Just says "Greco Clear Sound Project Model GD-800" on round sticker inside but no serial.

:(

Well, the Greco "clear sound project" are from the early 80's from what I know but without a SN it's difficult to tell you more... :-?

Usually they have one on the back of the head.

Found an old 1990 cataloge on http://www.vintaxe.com. Cost me $5.00 to get one month access but finally found my info.

Greco GD-800 is a 1990's guitar
Body: Spruce Top, Maple back
Neck: Mahogany 3 piece
Fretboard: Rosewood, 24F, 322Scale, 400R
Pickup: Ceramic-G
Control: Volume, treble, middle, bass
Finish: Uretane
Colors: CB, SES, VL, NT
Price: 80,000 YEN

Looks like a Gibson imitation. Either way it playes fine, looks great for a ~15 year old guitar and I know no one in my home town (Saskatoon, SK, Canada) will have one. :)

Thx.

Here is a 1973 Greco & Canda catalog about acoustic guitars, so probably it's no help anyhow:
