Hello!
I have a chance to buy a used FBL-60 model for $200. The seller says that he bought it at a Japanese auction. Serial number: C090440. Is there a way to establish if this guitar was really made by Tokai? Is it a Korean make? Is it worth the price?

Thanks.

Well with that serial number it's obviously chinese, looks the part, but anyone can cut a bit of wood now to look like any guitar, spray, and add cheap electrics,
that's why it's $200. It will not play/sound like a firebird, but it will look like a firebird. I don't know your age or budget, but if you want a firebird, either get a real one, or the best possible copy, sorry, but it won't be a mass produced chinese one though.
Try going to a big guitar outlet, and try out loads of different guitars, believe me, when you find the right one, you'll know it!
Happy hunting.

Thank you for your input. I am a lefty which makes it impossible for me to go to a big guitar store and play all the guitars I want. Even the best stores usually carry only a small selection of left-handed guitars. But you are right, this guitar will probably be anything but Firebird.

I don't know how FB60s are like, but I'm in process of getting a FB90VS. Used to have an Epiphone Firebird, but that one was useless. Tuners were those weird screw-things which kept cutting strings, only good thing was that it had a burst-finish and was cheap. But playing it... no, no.
